Seems still like a dream deal to me. They made back any budget overruns in double with tolls. I forget the budget for this small portion of Highway 1 but am sure we are paying and arm and a leg for it and it will still take forever to build.

Does anyone know when this project is going to start? The only thing done is the 'prep work' or moving a little bit of fill east of 232 street?
I recall when the Liberals were in charge, they updated infrastructure project websites, far more often than the NDP do.

Fraser Valley Highway 1 widening moves forward with new Glover Road crossing

Work to improve travel times on Highway 1 through the Township of Langley is moving ahead with the replacement of the Glover Road crossing.

This is a key component of the Province’s Highway 1 216th to 264th widening project.

A contract for the Glover Road replacement valued at $19.5 million has been awarded to Tybo Contracting Ltd. of Langley. Preparatory construction will begin this fall. Major construction will begin in early 2023. Completion is anticipated for summer 2024.

Thanks for posting this. Has there been any discussion here about the rail crossing east of Glover Road? It will be replaced as part of the widening project, but I would assume that it would not be feasible to close the track for a year as they're planning with Glover Road. Can a new rail crossing be squeezed in along the existing alignment without disrupting rail traffic, or are they going to have to go through part of the TWU land? I'm assuming that the new crossing will be different from the large, boxy design of the existing structure.

There's designs from their public engagement here:
https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/081ebc20f9d84d2cb6827c5ff9fd412f

Will be built parallel to the existing railway. Although the drawings aren't proper blueprints, it does seem like the bottom of the bridge will be slightly above the top of the current tunnel structure. The pillars also seem to be between the two tunnel structures. I imagine the phasing would probably entail excavating where the pillars will go between the tunnels, while still supporting the existing track, pillars get built, then the new bridge structure is placed just above the existing structures (still giving clearance to the existing tracks). The track work would be completed on the bridge structure, then all that will remain would be the tie in to the existing tracks, which can be done in a matter of hours with an experienced rail installation crew. After which the old tunnel structures and tracks are demolished.

Thanks! Always interesting to see how these projects are resolved when you have to work within the constraints of an existing system, as opposed to a blank slate.

Interesting that they are replacing a roundabout at 232nd with a traffic light.

Good news but man, it's taking forever to get 3+3 lanes all the way to Abbotsford. I hope all new overpasses can accommodate the eventual 4+4 lane configuration.

Agreed. Taking way way too long. Should have been 4 lanes each way from the get go. This value engineering when it come to road infrastructure has got to stop

I wished these transportation projects would had gotten going much sooner but unfortunately, lots of things that hadn't started yet since they might have a limited budget. Another reason why they did not replace the Glover Road Overpass until now is because they want to get the Highway 1 216 street interchange completed first before they plan to demolish the Glover Road Overpass to replace it with a higher clearance structure at the same position

looks like we are fully underway on construction now >>

Highway 1 expansion begins with replacing Glover Road crossing
https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2022TRAN0115-001693

Construction has begun but the area will be closed in early 2023 and detours will be in place, adding about five minutes of travel time.

“So passenger vehicles will go over the new 216th overpass, that will be the detour. And commercial trucks will go over the 232nd overpass so it’s important to keep them separated,” Fleming added.

https://globalnews.ca/news/9270182/glover-road-overpass-langley-replaced-highway-1-project/

also watch the video on the global page ..... wow does Transportation Minister Rob Fleming sound like an idiot who has no grasp of the project at hand let alone what the hell is going on in general. my fav quote "Because we know that people need to go to where they need to go, ahhhhhhhh much more quickly" WOW you think! never knew that ..... WOW. groundbreaking facts from the Rob-meister.

dont worry all Kevin Falcon aka Falco will be back on top of things soon as our next Premier in waiting

I'm losing track now. How many times has a government had a press conference about this project?

Agreed. Considering that there is already a third lane for 3/4 of this leg, this will have miniscule impact on the highway congestion. Broadway Skytrain to UBC and highway expansion to Abbotsford should both be built in one phase and as quickly as possible.

Ya gotta start somewhere. For the highway they'll be replacing all of the crossing structures with new works which I'm sure will be at least capable of 4 lanes in each direction, so it's an investment in the future.

When will they release the final designs though? I think there were some questions around the intermediate transitions for the 264 area that were left unanswered.

Also would be nice to start seeing some preliminary designs and prep work being done for the larger second phase…

If only Falcon & Crew knew how debt-apathetic BC would suddenly be today, they would have done it all.

So, is $225M that the original budget from 3-4 years ago?
We're not about to see some serious scope reduction, are we?

Sorry but it is gonna take years for the "stink" of the Liberal's last "Reign of Terror" to wear off. Hell, even Kevin(Neverbepremier) Falcon knows it's true. Isn't this why you change your name; so you won't be recognized?

Yeah electing a leader with the negative BC Lib stink was the worst idea. They should have gone with a fresh face. He'll have a hard time unless Eby stumbles a lot.
