Are you sure there's no rods in that section?

Also does Ivanhoe own that Dental Centre on the corner facing Nelson? Their redevelopment plan seems to leave that building untouched.

This will have 7 levels of parking, I believe Gilmore has 1 or 2 more than that.

Seems like there were 9 levels of underground to the base of the Skytrain guideway podiums. They said the pit was down 100 feet.

But Butterfly was just over 100 feet down as well:

ShangriLa 130 feet

One Burrard Place around 105 feet

Passive House will go down 11 storeys and have 10 levels of underground parking.

I don't know - there could also be an underground structure (?)

This building is owned by those guys that own land along the other side of Kingsway (5000 Kingsway etc):

SW corner of the building has the entrance to their underground parking.

Excavation comes right up to sidewalk. Looking on the map and Streetview there was a plaza on the corner here before.. never noticed it. Super under-utilized and would have been better as parking?

Or were there mechanicals in this space? Seems less likely as any of those are clearly all gone now.

We'll see if Brentwood can maintain banners.

During the whole Pokemon Go craze a couple of years ago, it used to be frequented quote a lot by crowds doing their group hunts for their Pokemon thingamajigs on their cellphones.
I imagine they would use it as a staging/meeting are.

But yeah, ......it was a considerably under-used park plaza.

Maybe (way) back in the day it was a more public space than what it turned out to be.

There used to be a(n also under-utilized and almost never turned on) fountain pool on the site, so I would imagine there's a bit of underground plumbing and service lines to sort through while excavating now.

Yeah from Google Maps it looked like there was a fountain and next to it there was some kind of shed thing with vents which maybe stored the pump etc. They are replacing that plaza with three other spaces in the new development.

^ I wouldn't have a problem with them if we had a healthy housing market, and it was just another option in the market. There's definitely people where a 300 sf apartment makes sense for their lifestyle, some people literally just want a place to sleep, and don't spend much time at home.

But with our market, that wouldn't be the people these would be rented to. They'd be rented to people who couldn't afford anything else, even if it's not nearly enough space to be liveable for them.

I don't think the unit size is the main issue here, but instead what it indicates about the rental market. If anything, the fact that Burnaby councilors know the issue about liveabilty and not lifestyle choices shows they know how unsustainable the rental market is, and should signal to them that they need to open more of the City up to development, and stop preventing any density in like 80 percent of the City. They're running out of easily developable areas, and it shows.

We all know those “non market” studios will still go for $1700. Not ideal for someone who “just uses it for sleeping”.

Also 700 sqft two bedrooms? Get the fuck outta here, concord. I don’t support this development
