They expanded in Canada a decade ago (?) and it seems to have stalled.

All day breakfast place Pur & Simple is opening in the prime corner spot on McKay and Kingsborough St at Station Square, it will be their third location in the LM, others are Pt Coquitlam and Mt Pleasant. They have locations across Canada. Should do well there, the area needs a good breakfast option.

the old Swiss Chalet spot has the signage up, it is called Happy Valley Restaurant, and it says Dim Sum/BBQ & Bar/Hong Kong Cafe. It had an old location which is listed as permanently closed, and has been Bimmer Haus for a while now.

There is signage in the windows at one of the spaces in Parq Casino on the Pacific Blvd corner spot that says Partee-Putt is opening soon. It would be their second location? they have one on Granville at Smythe.

I haven't been to any of those and only heard of few. Interesting how several well-known restaurants didn't get any stars or even a recommendation. Also disappointing that there is only ONE 2-star restaurant in Toronto.

Then you don't get out much anymore.

To my mind it gives the competition some credibility when they ignore known ripoffs run by jackasses.

Almost all of those restaurants I believe are fairly new; opened within the last few years? None of the old stalwarts like the Five Stars, Cioppino's or Le Crocodile made it anywhere; Bacchus and Hawksworth got a mention in passing under "recommended".

One of the Michelin Guide criterion is value for money. So restaurants that leverage high prices to seem "fancy", but don't produce food worthy of that high price tag are the opposite of what Michelin is looking for.

I've been to AnnaLena, Burdock & Co., Kissa Tanto and St. Lawrence. All good meals and the choices make sense though I was a bit surprised Burdock & Co made the list as you don't hear much about them. St. Lawrence was probably my favourite of those.

Same. Annalena was quite impressive as well. Kissa Tanto was more ok.

Big line-ups for croissants.
The location on Nelson St. was the UPS Store for many years, then because a series of failed restaurants.
The latest was one called the "Copper Branch", which I assumed was East Indian food until I read about its closure.

Vancouver's first Hazukido location draws massive lines on opening weekend

Silly people.

Though it was probably easier to get Jollibee on the weekend.

IMO no baked good beats a fresh, warm, and crisp croissant. And they are very hard to find in Vancouver.

I've been reheating plain supermarket mini-croissants in the air fryer for 6 min @150C and they turn out great.

Why does anyone care if a stranger wants to wait in line for something? It's utterly harmless and has zero impact on your life.

Some people like to think they are superior to others because they have different preferences for their free time and money.

"Don't yuck somebody else's yum" is apt in this instance.

I concur. Line-ups = good business = good all around for this City.

Love to walk by bakeries with awesome butter smell whiffs circulating in the air.

Once you've had a fresh authentic croissant you too will spend the rest of your life chasing that same experience

This is true. Same deal with a fresh baguette. Once I tried a fresh croissant in Paris, it was all over. Absolutely deliciousness that is really hard to find replicated elsewhere outside of France/Belgium.

Having said that, I had a really good croissant at Season's Bakery on 13th and Commercial.

How about because there already local bakeries/coffee shops making great croissants? Off the top of my head, Beaucoup, Mon Pitout, Nemesis/Dope.

it's like the hysteria over Jollibee - who needs someone licensing a foreign brand when Juke, Downlow etc were already offering better? Every item bought from these chains is an item not bought at a local business.
