Go see 'em while they're still hot! The shift away from using coke -- to natural gas in the shorter run and then electricity in the medium term -- will probably mean those flaming torches of industry shall be extinguished.
The Skyway must obscure the view of most Hamilton buildings from the northeast as well.
Farthest I've seen the skyline's peaks has been from the Dundas valley to the west (about 12 km) and east-ish along Hwy 8 near Fruitland Rd. (14k). I think there are a few lookout spots on the escarpment closer to Grimsby that
may offer a glimpse, 20-25 km out. The topography hides it from many angles, and to see the complete skyline there are but a few vantage points up to 10 km distant, usually from atop the escarpment. One of my favourites is from the train on the CN line in Dundas, once the view opens up from the trees.
