What I don't understand is why couldn't they have put the railing closer to the centre

It didn't look like that in February there were just rails against the building, down the center parallel to the railing by the lower section. And there were no rails on the garden side further up where there's some walking/seating areas off to the side. I assume they started adding railing somewhere and there's some kind of rule to have a continuous handrail for people which caused this mess.

Watch around 5:30. Looking at the video I could understand the concerns with the staircase just dropping off in areas next to the upper garden.

And that entrance on the Willingdon side with the staircase/escalators is a complete mess. I mean there has to be a more elegant solution than what they ended up with.

I was thinking the same. This is not as much on the city but the poor execution.

Looks like a dream for skateboarders if they can manage to be there for more than a minute before getting kicked off.

Haha, That's amazing, but not at all surprising. Time to stop calling inspectors professionals. No discretion - they just blindly follow the code, ugh.

I was thinking that the diagonal railing along the edge was fall protection. There's slight drop off to the flower bed.
However, I was glad to see that there aren't an abundance of railings that prevent falling into or off of areas next to the waterfall fountains.
So overall, it's a bit of a head scratcher.

Those escalators are all blocked off right now.

the taco place has had its hoarding removed and looks mostly complete inside, and has some outdoor seating. There was an application board up to apply for a change to its license. All I gathered was they want to serve alcohol until 2 am and the patio will close at 11 pm. I could be recalling incorrectly but they will be a late night place to go.

Jinya is also looking complete or near on the inside and they have set up some railings for what will be outdoor seating.

The parking by the old Sears is often closed off for filming inside the old sears for The Good Doctor. Parking also now requires signing in to get 3 hours of free parking, underground parking is still charging, I parked down there the other day, its so big I had no idea.

I’m glad you’ve mentioned the parking lot. I am of the opinion that we got plenty of parking spots in the mall. On the Beta street just outside of the old Sears entrance, there are street parking that I find redundant. I would rather that the city converts those spots curve that street so it’ll traffic calm cars going down that hill. Not all cars going down that hill respect the speed limit and given that it’s a hill, it feels dangerous crossing that street due to it. Slow that down hill via traffic calming infrastructure or turn that part of the hill into little parks and remove the road. Just my personal opinion though…

Where do you sign in? I didn't see any signage near London Drugs.

Sounds like it will be easier to just drive up to Metrotown to shop if you are driving.

they have signs with QR codes on them all over, I don't know if you need to up there, I only ever park by the old Sears ground level.

The BC Cannabis store is now open. They need a munchies store now.

didn't they always have pay parking? When I have parked there for Whole Foods I would get my parking validated and a refund. I don't recall them ever having a free option. Brentwood, old parking like the one by Sears, allows 3 hours free, underground nothing is free.

the outdoor seating doesn't look large and will intrude onto the plaza a bit?

This application is requesting to relocate the Earl's food primary licence from its current location at 3850 Lougheed Highway to the subject site. The subject establishment is proposed to have 181 seats for patrons inside the restaurant, and 50 seats on the patio. In addition there are 40 staff for a total person capacity of 271. The requested hours of liquor service are from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Monday to Saturday and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. on Sunday for the interior of the restaurant, and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. seven days a week for the patio. The folding glass door system separating the interior of the establishment from the patio is to be closed at 12:00 a.m. on Sunday through Thursday and 1:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. The report concluded that the requested liquor licence application was supportable, subject to gathering public input and providing a subsequent report on the application.

It's going to be a long while before more towers will be rising but at least there's now two in the active construction pipeline. I hope there won't be a similar lull after the next two as it's time for the old mall to go.

You mean for the old mall to be upgraded? Exciting to see that completed.
