I think that when we get a couple more large residential buildings on the corner of Vaughan Harvey/Main Street, the land will secure a retail plaza. You'd have to think that it would be a no brainer at that point. Although I still believe that the right retail tenant would make a killing at this location right now.

Crombie has some big-league residential developments in their portfolio, it's just too bad that Moncton isn't on their radar for a major revamp of 1222 Main Street. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

I noticed today that Seymour Street is now open; the street name and one way signs are in place and the Robinson St. parking lot has been closed for a while. Everything points to the Galco project starting construction this fall.

Tonight I had the pleasure of visiting your downtown for super. We tried out Monk10 at the Hilton Garden Inn. Great spot!

I know MonctonRad has commented on this before so I’ll echo their comments that Highfield Street needs better street lighting.

I could see the Three Sisters project in the distance and the size is awesome. Seeing the layout of your downtown reaffirms what’s been alluded on here before that a true downtown Moncton will be shaped in the ocean of what is currently surface parking. Main Street is wonderful but it doesn’t give the impression you’re in metro core of ~150,000.

With that being said I think Moncton should seriously consider planning and actually building the layout of the downtown. You have the population growth yet so many residential units are being wasted by these boring 6 storey cookie cutter boxes going up on suburban streets.

Anyways best of luck, I’m sure the next time I’m back there will be even more changes in the area.

The first of 9 six storey apartment buildings to be built on Millennium Blvd by CG Group:

Infinity Aerials (https://www.facebook.com/infinityaerials.ca)

Complete site to be developed:

This is one of the largest residential developments under construction in Moncton. If this had been developed in the real downtown core, and if it had a commercial component and if it didn't consist of nine identical generic apartment buildings, then it probably would have justified it's own development thread on the forum. As it stands though, this development is (yawn) extremely boring, disappointing and without real architectural merit.

I hope the apartments are good quality and affordable.

Drove by this afternoon and noticed the 2nd building foundation was already excavated. Does that mean a 2nd crane on site?

There is a positive here...concrete construction usually means some decent quality. If I didn't own my own home, I would only choose an apartment made out of concrete. The sound of someone walking on their heels in the apartment above would make me want to run into the woods and scream!

Fahdas Pita Wrap on Main Street is now temporarily closed and plans to re-open at the end of the month in its new home in the same building. The entire wing where the old location was will be torn down to make way for a new restaurant which appears to be Baton Rouge, at this point it seems likely that this is more than just a rumor now as some sources close to the site are confirming the rumor.

There is now construction fencing put up along the entire front of the Crowne Plaza retail podium to the east of the tower itself. It would appear that demolition is imminent. I suspect we will see quick work on the replacement of the former retail plaza. Rumours of Baton Rouge remain strong.

I noticed on the Cushman & Wakefield website that both the old SMT building on Main St. and the former YWCA building on Highfield Street are for lease. After buying and then sitting on that entire bloc since 2011, maybe the Aquilinis know that Moncton exists after all! There's a good chunk of land that can be developed. Lets hope something great eventually happens.

Loli Cafe & Lounge will colocate with the Nakai Spa in the former Sounds Fantastic building on Bonaccord Street in downtown Moncton.

Co-Owners Melanie Lang and Sharon Kelly of NAKAI Spa Salon Studio are branching out into the world of coffee and cocktails. In June, the pair of entrepreneurs, alongside Robert Pejsa and Christopher Robichaud purchased the William S. Torrie building where Sounds Fantastic currently operates. Lang and Kelly will be turning a portion of the historical mansion into a much-needed café and cocktail lounge.

LOLI Cafe & Lounge is nestled just off Main Street, and their plan is to fill the missing gap in Moncton for guests to enjoy artisan coffee during the day and come back to have a unique hand-crafted cocktails and share plates in the evening. The concept will be new to Moncton, as the entrepreneurs were inspired by other cafés and cocktail lounges during their travels around Canada and the US.

The café and lounge will be open seven days a week, featuring coffee from Epoch Chemistry Coffee House, distinctive (and signature) cocktails, live entertainment and DJs, with plans to have one of the largest patios in downtown next year.

The remaining portion of the building will turn into the new home of the Moncton location of NAKAI Spa Salon Studio, which will be opening in the Spring of 2023.

The land (next to Staples) on Main Street with the ICON Developments sign on it has no sales records listed on the PAOL site. Could it be that they just have an option to buy it pending approval of their development plans?

So they're likely working on something behind the scenes. It'll be interesting to see what their plans are. Let's hope it's something befitting this "gateway to downtown" location!

He is a local developer in Moncton. So far he has specialized in medium sized apartment projects. Perhaps he is going to become more ambitious (like Lafford).
