If only there was allowance of just one 35F building closer to the eastern side. Even if just a bit past the Loblaws so it can have a nice view of downtown over the other buildings and giving one standout building. It can also block out that garbage Story of Rideau+Chapel building and separate it from the rest of the Byward Rideau area towers.

I do think these towers are good for the area though, especially with the hotel inclusion in the development. It will help a lot.

The hotel component was dropped on this one. As far as we know, it's still a go for the Moon project though.

That said, we still have Rimap's AC Marriott where the Beer Store used o be, along with their Marriott Moxy that will incorporate the Major Building.

They have added quite a bit of glazing. Especially on the east tower. I'm liking how the Rideau street faces are shaping up. Lots of SOHO Italia eske glazing. The rest of the faces will be more brick with vertical stripes of this same glazing.

So far it's not matching the renders on the Rideau face... but for the better? Seems like a high ratio of glass and those vertical cladding bands are now much skinnier.

I think the shorter tower is pretty close to being topped out. Fingers crossed they keep that angled roof. We should find out soon.

I also feel like it's not matching the renders on the Rideau face but in a very good way.

I'm wondering what's next in the pipeline for the Rideau corridor. We just had a massive boon.

Envie 1+2
Royale 3 towers
AC Mariot
541 Rideau
The Charlotte
250 Besserer
Trinitys aborted red headed step child with a second one on the way.

That is 11 structures if you want to count Royale as 3. I'm willing to accept anything that's on an adjacent street or half block away that will be visible.

I think the only proposal we have at the top end of Rideau where the Romanian? embassy is. There is also mid rise on Nelson across the street from Loblaws but that thread has been quiet for a while.

Did I hear the TD bank is moving to the old Forever 21 spot? Or moving at least. That is a nice chunk of land.

It was fun while it lasted. Albert st. corridor and Lebreton will probably steal the show next.

I thought I heard it would be moving into the old Paramount Foods. Indigo is moving into the old Forever 21 spot.

In the direct area, the only project I can think of that will start as soon as it's approved are Rimap's Marriott Moxy at the Major Building at 22 floors. We then have Claridge's two towers around the Andaz, but those have been dormant for a while. There's also the Château Laurier addition, but I could see it shelved as it was probably targeted more at MPs, who may never fully return in person.

Next big thing in the east end will be Vanier with a few big projects in the River/Montreal/Vanier Parkway/MacArthur block.

Thanks for the update, and might I say, looking good? Agreed it doesn't look like the renders but definitely for the best. Looking forward to seeing the finished project. Maybe it might even become one of my favorite Claridge project but I won't jynx it.

This one is really coming along. I still have no idea what it will end up looking like, but one thing is for sure: Not like the renders. The first CharcWhite bricks are going up on the back side, and I'm pretty sure every section with green glassroc will be CharWhite bricks when they are finished. I certainly appreciate the dark spandrel facades on Rideau Street, it's a nice change from the renders. The shorter tower on the front left is 16/18 floor. The taller towers are 18/26 and 18/27.

The low floor condos here will be *dark* when the sun hibernates for Ottawa’s dismal winters. I absolutely despise these depressing, wide, stumpy highrises in the urban canyons of Centretown and Lowertown.
Can’t wait for this era of the 2000s-2020s multi-residential high rise development in Ottawa to be over.

It doesn't end until the NIMBY's and the NCC stop fighting tooth and nail over height. Ottawa doesn't have hundreds of empty parking lots downtown like Calgary or Edmonton, space is very limited here at this time. Tunney's Pasture and Lebreton Flats have taken generations to open up for densification. To achieve densification targets with the currently available land, we either build Vancouver style with human scale podiums and tall slender towers, or we build full block slabby 23-29 story towers with no space in between.

Looks decent so far. Didn't they start this one and Moon at the same time? If so, they are way behind on Royale.

I feel like I want to say this one has a larger footprint. It also took a long time to get to grade but seems to have progressed quickly since then. That's just off the top of my head.

Now that I look back, I'd have to agree the project has sped-up since it's been at grade.

I would like to note, that this seems to be one of the few projects with a 'green roof'. Now, it is on top of the podium and not the towers, but it is still a wonderful touch. Wasnt there a proposal like a decade ago that all new development was to have a green roof? What happened to that?

I feel like that was proposed on a few projects, but rarely materializes. For what it's worth, Claridge does have a decent record of implementing green roofs, like at LeBreton Flats and Tribeca's podium. Other notable examples are the NDP HQ (Layton Building at Laurier and Bank, which was once Eaton's) and the Provincial Court on Elgin. Looks like Gotham on Lyon has one too, along with Central at Bank and Gladstone.

While being a CharcWhite, it seems to be devoid of any crosses or funny patchwork stuff. Looks like it will be similar treatment to the north face of Moon which isn't the end of the world.

As I was walking southbound on Rideau st. returning from my peek at Charlotte, I couldn't help but think we are very close to these cranes getting raised.

What do you figure the over under on 10 days is? Monday of the following week.

As I was walking around Royale tonight, I was really appreciating the Charcoal/White cladding. It's a nice contrast on the block. No, I am not being sarcastic as usual. I have no problem with Charcoal and White cladding, I just think that 'Variety is the Spice of Life', and we don't have enough of that going on in Ottawa.
