18.78% turnout in Burnaby. Can such figure be real??? Incredibly low figure and lowest in the region?

Ken Sim seems a lot more engaging and fun in his victory speech. Good to see. He was also very gracious to Stewart and all others who ran.

It's kind of nuts how the NPA's more or less disappeared overnight. Guess that's what you get for going full PPC.

Nobody's running for mayor against Mike Hurley; guess everybody figured there's no need to vote when the result is inevitable.

Acclamated mayor. Why bother voting when you're not even voting for the throne? Dumb way of thinking, but a lot of people probably don't see a point voting if they're not voting for mayor.

Mayor by acclamation. Without a vote for the top of a ticket there’s not much motivation. The Greens in Vancouver should take note.

Still, not a good trend for democracy.

Very strange logic indeed since the mayor is only a single vote on the council, which is actually the thing that matters in municipal matters. Very surprised not to see One Burnaby do better in election as they had a very sensible and defined program.

Colleen Hardwick was SO sour in her CTV interview. What a bad loser, especially considering how nicely Sim spoke of her in his victory speech.

Link? Call me spite driven, but I'm a little giddy to watch her fall.

Is there any idea of ABC Vancouver's position on view cones or shadowing policies? Just imagine what could be achieved with a super majority in those areas...

From a Tri-cities perspective, I'd classify this election as good news, solid councils in Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam carry on unchanged, while Port Moody hopefully returns to that column as well, getting a fresh start with five new faces in the seven mayor/councillor positions.

Remember that last time in 2018, Ken Sim's big plan to increase housing supply was cutting basement suites and laneways in half, and he wanted more consultation of local homeowners. I don't expect him or his party to revisit either policy.

I did advance voting.

We also voted to add to parks in each quadrant of Burnaby - no surprise that each got over 90% yes vote.

To be fair, that was under the NPA banner. ABC policy makes no mention of that. Here's hoping for sunny ways.

North West Burnaby definitely has a criminally low amount of parks.

I think the ABC platform says that they're going to speed up permits by a significant amount, which doesn't suggest much, if any, consultation on simple projects. And they suggest pre-approved laneway designs that could get almost instant approval. Whether those are realistic or achievable, given the different context of every project remains to be seen, but it is certainly different from the 2018 platform.

Oh, Ginger Gosnell-Meyers on CBC said pre-approved designs were bad because, "You need to have an approval process to make sure any indigenous archeological sites are not disturbed".

I, for one, would love to see mini-Vancouver Special laneway houses all over the city.

No it isn’t. Off to the scrap heap where he and his band belong.

Only good one thing he ever came up with was the idea of a ward system for the city which wasn’t really his idea anyways. Good riddance

I did not realize the connection there, although it is all publicly available. I think this forum's dreams around view cone relaxation just got a little more real... maybe?
