Today is the grand opening of the Warhammer, (Games Workshop), store located at 20 Plaza Avenue on the westside, (same building as Vogue Optical, near Sobeys).

Opening is at 12pm today. https://stores.warhammer.com

The Vintage Patch is opening a pop-up shop at McAllister Place this coming holiday season. (They were at Regent Mall in Fredericton last year).

A source has indicated that the former Red Cross building on Lansdowne Avenue in the north end, (across from Lansdowne Plaza), is being converted into a 4 tenant strip mall. Will be called "Brunswick Plaza". There will be 3 units in the front, and 1 in the rear of the building. So far plans have indicated that Brilliant Smoke Shop down the street will be moving here. And a Pizza Pizza will be opening here as well. Work is already happening on the building.

Looks like Mezza Lebanese Kitchen is coming to the city next year. Someone on Facebook recently asked them if there is any updates on one coming to Saint John, New Brunswick, and they've responded with "keep an eye out for mid-2023". Wonder where they will be located?

Nice to see an old building get repurposed. There is a lot of potential in that area for both commercial and residential developments. The city should look at implementing a road diet on Landsdowne from Metcalf to Visart and they could create a roundabout at Landsdowne and Wellesley. As opposed to having 5 entrances into Landsdowne plaza bring it down to 1 or 2.

Something interesting I've come across. Someone on Facebook has said there have been people working in the area of the old Zellers Select, (Lansdowne Plaza in the north end). According to them it might be a bigger expanded Sobeys going there. Apparently, the people were measuring and taking photos on different days and big wigs from Sobeys corporate were there too. Supposedly, they want to build a new store and demolish the current one next to the property. Hopefully this is true, because this property has been vacant for a long time. Almost 10 years I believe.

The exterior of Sobeys Landsdowne is outdated unlike any other Sobeys I’m aware of. The interior has been updated but imo it’s a weird layout and cramped.

A plan for this entire plaza really needs to be developed.

Oh boy, that makes me happy! Cramped means it might be a new Farm Boy if it truly is Sobeys who has the lease rights. When they bought the brand a few years ago they said that they'd be looking to convert their older smaller stores into Farm Boy locations - which only sell organic and farm fresh food and not all the other household items - so need they less of a footprint.

Personally, a Farm Boy would be better served downtown at King's Square to get that tower started but oh well. I hope and wait patiently.

If there is a new Sobeys store built on the former Sears/Zellers/Best Value/Zellers Select land spot, then they MUST utilize the upper parking lot too.

That can be done by installing an elevator capable of holding carts into either the back or on the side of the building. Such a system exists, if I can use another city as an example here, at a FreshCo store located at the corner of Upper Gage Avenue & Rymal Road East in the upper portion of Hamilton, Ontario. Use Google Maps to find that store.

The reason the upper lot outside Fairview Lanes would need to be used anyway because there's not enough parking anymore in the lower portion of Lansdowne Plaza.

And the 'Brunswick Plaza' building is the former Woodhouse store that moved there from Uptown. Just a reminder on that for everyone here.

P.S. DyAm00394, that former store was torn down in November 2013. So, we are 2 months away from that property having been vacant without a building for 9 years.

o.o

Some McAllister Place updates
  • Just Cozy is now open, same location as last year next to Suzy Shier.
  • Also, Quarks Shoes is opening this month. recent job listings have an expected start date of Oct.11th, 2022. So probably opening next week or mid-late October.
  • And the seasonal pop-ups will be opening soon as well. Calendar Club's kiosk opening on Oct.24th, in the main hallway near the Atlantic Lottery Booth. Hickory Farms is opening in November I assume, next to the Calendar Club kiosk I believe. And The Vintage Patch will be opening a pop-up shop in the mall as well for the holiday season. Wonder if PYT Hair Care will opening their usual pop-up as well?

Ren's Pets Depot is coming soon!
Smartcentres has updated their site plan and lists Ren's Pets in the former Pier 1 Imports spot next to Old Navy (unit #14). The address is 90 Consumers Drive for anyone wondering.

Strathallen has updated the floorplan again for Lancaster Mall.
  • They will be creating some new smaller 1,500-1,902sq.ft. units, (unit 1D5-1D8), inside the remaining indoor portion of the mall.
  • The former Fairweather spot will be combined with the space next to The Great Canadian Dollar Store creating a new 5,500sq.ft. spot. This new unit (1D2) has exterior access.
  • Also News Mart is moving to the former bus lounge area next to Walmart's mall entrance. (Unit 1A2).

Branco Management Inc. posted two images to their Facebook stories. One confirming that Blaze Pizza is coming soon to 149 McAllister Drive, next to Tim Hortons. And another showing that Starbucks at East Point Shopping Center is undergoing renovations.

Yes, Starbucks East will be closed for at least 8 weeks - I suspect likely longer based on other construction projects and how long it takes to get anything done....Staff have transferred to West and Rothesay in the interim.

The Retail Talk And Share New Brunswick FB group is saying that something is happening at the former Mark's on McAllister Drive.

Has Cineplex finally gained control of that spot and begun work on something for there?

Apparently Hart is opening a 2nd location here due to something with their lease at Parkway Mall and that they couldn’t sell everything in one store. So their bedding, curtains and yarn departments are moving to the second location.
