I dont understand why block 261 is shorter than 262, given its adjacent proximity to the freeway. It should be 10+ stories to block out the sound at least. I wonder how the retail will do on Thurman and 20th will do as well. I drove through there a few weeks ago and there were tons of tents and homeless activity under the freeway on both sides of 20th. Bet they dont include that in their advertising...

Why do the architects chose not to show the freeway beyond in their elevations. That is a very significant piece of the context. LIKE IT or NOT. Just pretty colored elevations.

It's an annoying and ongoing issue with architects and their renderings to want to show off the best features of their building rather than what exists around the site.

Back on October 25 in this thread, I also expressed disappointment that the northern building is shorter than the southern building. While I was on the neighborhood committee that provided early design review comments to the architect and developer, we made it clear that we preferred a taller building at the north to help block the noise from and view of the Highway 30 viaduct. We also wished that the northern building were devoted primarily to office use rather than to residential use next to a freeway.

I should have taken photos, but it looks like they have finally started demolition of the big structure on Block 290. Block 291 east is also quite fenced off (sidewalk is blocked off and there's a temporary walkway in the bike lane area), so I'm not sure if that's going under construction imminently or if it's being used for staging to do the Block 290 work / extension of NW Quimby.

Both Block 290W and 291E / Freewell should be under construction soon. When I last walked by there I think I saw that 292E was going to be used as staging for 291E. Presumably 290W can use the future park site for staging, given that there's been no outwardly visible progress on a design for the park.

That makes a lot of sense. The lack of progress on that park is both frustrating and not surprising given other parks delays (looking at you, O'Bryant Square). Hopefully by the time the two adjacent blocks are done, they've made some progress on figuring it all out.

By my count, mostly thanks to perusing the NextPortland map and archives, there's around 2,500 units (could be more, this was just quick back-of-the-napkin math) either built in the last decade, under construction, or approved by the design commission within 3 blocks of the park site, including developments outside the master plan. That's a lot of people who could really use better park access, not to mention all the workers nearby.

I walked by 291E a few days ago and construction appears to be under way.
