A high rise is a building taller than 12 floors. All the buildings in the database are 12 floors and higher

Laval has a cluster of high-rises along the A-15 and the A-440.

Despite all the negativity towards Laval, about 30% of its territory is zoned farm land. The island is about 247km², so with the 30% of protected farm land the city has a density of 2,540/km². It is higher than most people would think.

Single-family detached homes count for less than 5% of newly build housing.

I was a member, but I was banned within weeks, for not kowtowing to Malek (who was famously banned from SSP for being a real jerk...London Ontario is no Paris France [and I long for Montreal, my hometown], but to call the place a shithole (when [a] one has never visited and [b] when one lives in suburban Laval) is over the top assholish.

Yes, he still has an iron grip on Mtlurb, to the point where he banned a slew of regulars who supported the construction of the REV St-Denis bike path back in 2020. All discussions related to active mobility were erased from the site.

The good news is some of the exiles started Agora MTL which is a really nice forum with thoughtful members, good content and an ad-free layout that doesn't feel like wading through a swamp. Plus it isn't run by a maniac troll with seriously wacko political views.

Agreed. Such a harsh and hideous contrast to the Basilica.

The 4:12 min mark Clockzilla makes its cameo. Otherwise you'd think the spaceship movie theatre is the heart of Laval. I really liked the — soundtrack and the abundance of starswipes and effects that I haven't seen in that abundance since Star Wars or a retro — movie. Also loved the parking lots and SFH's with identical above ground swimming pools.

One thing that has change on Mtlurb is that you no longer have to be signed in to lurk around the site. Definitely a response to losing ground to agoramtl.

Agoramtl is superior in every way but one. i hate the mega page.

the towers are ugly but the neighborhood is great. Cote des Neiges is chock full of great restaurants and markets, and is right on the doorstep of UofM/HEC. Plus buses/metros can whisk you downtown in 5 minutes.

Agora MTL is great. I have lurked, but never joined...I should. Damn I miss Montreal very badly.

The video does not leave me with a great impression. Laval is...a massive suburb, in the best traditions of Missingsausage and S(l)urrey. Highways, parking lots, more highways, parking lots, and suburban/industrial tracks. Not intended to insult people living there (my neighborhood in NW London is hardly much better in terms of being comprised of Stroads/Sprawlsville), but these are places nobody would ever want to visit, except if there was family (and maybe to check out the mega malls, if you like that sort of thing). Clockzilla is kryptonite.

I disagree. The commie blocks in the foreground are rather elegant modernist buildings, well built and maintained and built around a pretty elegant and newly renovated courtyard. But it's true that it took me a while to get used to them.

As a former Ridgewood resident myself, the true villain here are the commie blocks in the background, on Forest Hill.

— music and — editing in those videos. Fitting for Laval.

Laval is not a city for tourists, but it is the city with the best economic outlook in the province. The industrial potential the city has is impressive. Huge warehouses popping everywhere along highways and new commercial districts are being created every year. It's a city with enormous financial means.

I agree the city is ugly, it lacks interconnection between neighborhoods and the planning was nonexistent for most of its history. However, it's probably the only city in the GMA which has such great development potential on such a large territory.

The Rockhill towers are fine. They are well-build, well-kept buildings with spacious appartements that offer a lot for the price. This is not what I would describe as commie blocks. They are among the best deal in Côte-Des-Neige. I would choose to live there if I was to live in that neighborhood.
