89 seats for the CAQ at the moment, 15 more than in 2018.

PQ got more votes than the Liberals. Unfortunately for both, there are other parties than just these two nowadays

CAQ wins Hull, a huge historic Liberal bastion.

The CAQ now holds 4 of 5 seats in the Outaouais.

Québec Solidaire doesn't want to merge with the PQ, Québec Solidaire wants to feast on the dead carcass of the PQ.

I think one of the goals of QS for this election was to definitely kill the PQ and become the only option for left leaning voters and sovereigntist (even though QS is way more to the left than the PQ and should barely count as sovereigntist). QS would than hope that voters would simply have to accept QS more radical agenda without having to tame it to gain more voters. It failed and QS is now capping.

QS puts on a brave face but they can't not be disappointed.

As Chantal Hébert pointed out earlier: what is the way forward for them to break out of their hyper-urban bastions?

Does it even exist?

If you closed your eyes to not see the orange, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois sounded like the leader of the Green Party in his speech.

We all know the answer: PQ-QS merger into a party that isn’t so far left as to be permanently capped at 10 hyper-urban ridings.

The government has one MNA from the island representing nearly 25% of Quebec’s opposition.

The official opposition ranks fourth in popular vote.

I really hope there’s grassroots pressure to end FPTP after this. Whatever stability you think an artificial majority creates isn’t worth a government that absolutely does not represent the people it is meant to serve…

They're my least-favourite party but even more unjust is the situation of the Parti Conservateur which has zero members but 13% of the vote, which represents about 500,000 people I'd say.

Problem is, I have a strong feeling the current Parliament isn’t going to be in a rush to abolish FPTP

Not voting also doesn’t really help bring electoral reform.

What would you do…?

I’m not sure QS membership would be keen on that. After all, there’s a reason they aren’t part of the PQ in the first place. Merging with Option nationale was one thing but the PQ has so much baggage.

So back to the PQ of old, before the QS breakaway, when the PQ was consistently in the 30s %, and was a legitimate contender to form the government.

Just kick Alberta and Quebec out of Canada, both seem to despise the idea of Canada anyway

As an ordinary citizen? There’s absolutely nothing that can be done. Even if all the non-CAQ parties band together to create pressure, there’s no chance of any change happening in the foreseeable future. The best that can happen is constant pressure but I really doubt that will happen. People just don’t care enough.

Montreal island population: ~2M. Represented by the official opposition.

Quebec off-island: ~6.5M. Represented by the government.

It’s not that disproportionate, when viewed like this.

The official opposition is a super Montreal-Island-Centric party that is overrepresented (like the CAQ), so they (Montrealers) aren’t getting such a bad deal from FPTP.

Montreal = the Canada part of Quebec in the same way Edmonton = the Canada part of Alberta

Oh no, don't disagree at all with this.

But the Parti Conservateur sentiment is not (as) regional but still large, and it's not represented at all.

That's what I am saying.

You can expect nothing from the Liberals. The current system is too good for them (22-23 seats with just 13-14% of the vote). And the parti conservateur can't put any pressure, they have no seat.
