Does Charlesfort Developments no longer exist? Their website is dead:

http://www.charlesfort.ca/

If that's the case, it's too bad. They introduced some pretty amazing projects with Hudson Park, the Continental and Merit, along with a few other small projects.

Their last one was a disappointment though. Putman, was it?

They still exist but I don't believe they have any major projects planned.

1344 and 1346 Bank street

Former home of The Mongolian Hot pot place and a dress shop next door.

Area now fenced off .. could be a coincidence but I noticed a Dymon company vehicle on site…. New storage facility maybe?

A mural on one of those sides would have been nice, a la Montreal.

Otherwise, adding lighting or LED strips to the balconies to accentuate the design would also be cool and make this building more modern, attractive and vibrant (and would look really cool driving the 417).

Proposal in Val-Tétreau area of Hull. Just west of UQO, across the river from Britannia.

It would replace a Church built in 1957 with a 260 apartment complex.

If it even passes at Council, no doubt it will be killed by a referendum.

Its absolutely ridiculous how nothing can get build in Gatineau. This project would be right next to a 9 stories apartment building and they're all up in arms for something that is 2 extra floors?

That church is actually pretty cool architecture wise, would be nice if they could adapt it into the project somehow.

Anchoring this development with an actual grocery store would be great for the area, which is really missing food options.

But given the response by residents, sounds like this won't make it out of the planning stage.

The major issue is that the land is zoned for 4 floors, the zoning change is pretty abrupt. Anything that is considered a major derogation to zoning can be killed by referendum.

I never like seeing churches demolished. Churches define an area and are the souls (no pun intended) of a community. If they built something along the north side of the lot, 12 floors or so and an extension of the church on the other side, lining with the current section coming out of the roof and wrapping around to the back. Probably be an easier sell while preserving a defining feature of the area. As it stands, their proposal is pretty souless.

YMCA-YWCA to sell flagship downtown building
Sale process expected to take up to 2 years

CBC News
Posted: Oct 27, 2022 3:02 PM ET | Last Updated: 2 hours ago

The flagship YMCA-YWCA building in downtown Ottawa at 180 Argyle Ave. is going to be put up for sale, according to a news release issued Thursday.

The sale is part of plans to move to a facility better-suited to meet the demands of the programs and services it provides.

"This building has come to the end of its life cycle and can no longer meet the needs of our community without significant infrastructure upgrades," said Bob Gallagher, president and CEO of the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region, in the release.

Those upgrades would cost $38 million.

The sale process is expected to take up to two years, which the organization hopes will give it time to find a new space to keep supporting the community that depends on it.

"Over the next two years, staff and volunteers will continue to provide the critical services that support the health and well-being of our community, while ensuring the least amount of disruption to our clients and community we serve, especially for those who call this Y facility their home," said Susannah Crabtree, chair of the Y's board of directors.

Wonder where they'll move to? Maybe they can work out something with a developer on LeBreton Flats.

Did a Google search. Certainly seems part of a trend with multiple ymca locations being sold in the past two years.

Since when has it become cheaper to abandon/sell buildings instead of renovating them and building new instead? Unless they don't expect to build/own and are looking for a sweetheart deal to rent somewhere else?

They had a letter of understanding with DCDLS as part of their losing bid to RVL back in 2016. LeBreton would certainly be a good spot. Another possibility could be at the old Bus Depot site on Catherine as part of the Brigil project, if they want to stay near their current location.

They sold the Orleans Y a few months ago. I suspected it was more about unloading a building largely used as a vaccine clinic, but maybe it is a trend, as you suggest.

My thinking as well. $38 million doesn't sound like that much.

It's right next door to Centretown Citizens Ottawa Corporation Beaver Barracks. Could be a good opportunity for them to pick it up and add a community centre for their tenants.
