I just noticed the changes today while trying to look up our property tax info.

I'm not sure yet if this is better or worse, but in general I really dislike that kind of simplification. I do most of my internet activity on a laptop though, so that may be why. On a smart phone I might appreciate it more.

nope. Same with the Building permit activity summary page. Both seem to have gone 🞵🞵🞵🞵.

Also the former municipal zoning by-laws, which are still applicable for residential properties, seem to be gone. Can't find them.

The new website design is fine, but they can't just delete / not provide redirects for old pages.

Or the info is there, somewhere, but you have to search for it. Which usually means you need to know exactly what you're looking for. If they've retitled the old webpage or content names, searchers may be SOL.

The Ontario government websites are notorious for that. Probably by design, given the way the PCs operate.

DRP page is back up and searchable. Confirmed meeting for September received no submissions.

According to Forge and Foster Twitter Emblem developments purchased 100 John St N and 61 Wilson St, which seems like the northeast corner of the intersection of the two streets. Emblem new Darko?

Putting a further dent into the east downtown parking lots I see.

Not a parking lot, northeast, not southwest

Ah, I see. Is this within the downtown growth area then? They might be looking to do some lot assembly for something bigger.

It's a big enough assembly for them to build without any further acquisition - measuring the rough property lines on the City's mapping gives an approximate sizing of 2,300 square metres.

Though the adjacent property owners may be smart to sell sooner rather than later, depending on what kind of impacts to their development potential Emblem's eventual proposal makes.

Damn this intersection is going from nothing to something real quick! This only leaves the South West corner of John & Wilson (which is a parking lot) with no plans yet.... what's the over/under on that lot getting a big announcement soon (and why is it taking so long, who owns it?)?

I'm not 100% what 61 Wilson is. It seems like 61 Wilson and 100 John aren't connected unless I'm confused. 61 Wilson doesn't even seem to exist, and it doesn't seem to include the Gary Proctor Building? (Which btw I love and hope stays).

I'm confused too. Looking at the zoning map 61 Wilson is the northwest corner of John & Wilson, which is already covered by hoarding. 100 John St. N is not the Proctor building, but two doors down, at what google tells me is an art gallery in the building at the end of a long parking lot. Perhaps that's just the first of the buildings they want to buy, I can't say.

The various maps have probably had a hard time discerning exactly where the addresses should go because the abundance of parking lot doesn't really give any clue as to where property lines might have been.

But the City's own property line data show quite clearly that 61 Wilson is almost certainly the northeast corner. (The Gary Proctor Building)

From the City of Hamilton's base map, click on the lot at the northeast corner, and have a look through the various records that come up.

Note that all of the addresses that come up share the same property number - 251802015358790. So 61 Wilson, 65 Wilson, and 92 Wilson have all been merged together at some point.

As an off-topic but worth mentioning aside - I almost cannot believe the City published such a broken new website. It broke a number of the maps listed at map.hamilton.ca including the the City-Owned Properties map, the Find My Ward map, the Tax Impact Mapping map, and like another four of them.

Absolutely. It's a disaster. My dad works in IT and I worked there for a while, and there was so much work that went into ensuring a new launch would go smoothly. If there were any serious glitches or issues after 6 months of testing and finally publishing, they would immediately revert and work to fix any issues before re-publishing.

I don't know how the city paid like almost $3 million for this "upgrade". It has potential but they really need to fix all the glaring issues that were immediately obvious to those who use the site to collect information about the city. The worst part? This was done right before an election so it limits resident's and new agencies ability to be informed about the city current councillors and the city in general.

‘Deeply affordable’ CityHousing building first of its kind in Hamilton

https://www.thespec.com/news/hamilton-re...lding-first-of-its-kind-in-hamilton.html

“Deeply affordable” housing units by CityHousing are an option on the horizon for vulnerable Hamiltonians in need a home.

Currently under development at 253 King William St., a three-storey, 24-unit modular housing complex will be home to the highest-priority individuals, including those facing domestic violence and experiencing homelessness, with very low rents.

The model for “deeply affordable” housing would allow tenants to rent for as little as $85 per month based on their income, said Sean Botham, manager of development at CityHousing Hamilton.

He told The Spectator that the rent for the upcoming modular housing will be “very affordable, especially in light of current rental rates.”

The construction project is a first of its kind in Hamilton — manufactured in a factory and then deployed to the location for stacking and joining of the units for further detailing.

CityHousing allocated $6.4 million to build the units at a municipal parking lot, in collaboration with Montgomery Sisam Architects, a Toronto-based company designing sustainable housing models.

$262,500 a unit is really good price for affordable units. Although admittedly they are only 323 square feet.

Word is that they may be looking at relocating into Ward 3 as some of the men that use the Wesley day service use the Missions Services at night. The timeline lines up with the decommissioning of the shelter at Cathedral in Stinson. Great for John Rebecca park and the development around there. Not so great for Ward 3.

Announcement from Don Seymour, Executive Director

To the Wesley community and broader city,

Chronic homelessness in Hamilton is becoming more severe, with many people remaining in unnecessary cycles of addiction and mental health crises. Individuals can recover from homelessness with persistent long-term support including harm reduction, supportive housing, and outreach workers in the community.

This is work we are already providing through some of our programs and looking to increase in 2023. We will be refocusing our resources from emergency response to address the root causes of homelessness.

As a result of this new focus, one of our programs, the Catharine St. North Day Centre for people experiencing homelessness will be closing in the Spring.

We will ensure that individuals continue to receive meals as we move forward with our community partners to create programs that will deepen our support of people suffering from homelessness and help transform lives.

We look forward to sharing more in the coming months.

Don

Great news. Once the condos finally get built in this area, we may finally be able to enjoy the park. I actually walked by JR Park today and was shocked at the state of it...again.

That park is actually in terrible shape, I believe they may need a complete do-over once it's surrounded by thousands of new residents.
