Hopefully S23 is near-normal (2019 levels of traffic).
Did AC used to fly YOW-YXE and YOW-YQR?

Yes. Originally they were separate routes but were later combined into a triangle routing. That same triangle now is out of YUL.

Flair have opened their summer 2023 schedule. A few things to note (assuming they hold):
-YYJ returns but only on Saturdays vs 2x weekly this year
-YYG returns and is 3x weekly - was it 2x weekly this summer?
-SFB is extended to early June
-FLL is extended to year-round - hopefully it sticks this time
-CUN is extended to year-round, meaning the airport might actually record international pax in every month in 2023.

Fantastic news actually. Although, I don't think YYJ brought down to 1x weekly will be good for the route. I wanted to use YOW-YLW, but since that was 1x weekly, I never ended up using it and now it's gone.

I agree it certainly makes it more risky for long-term survival. It's a lot different than some sun routes that have been weekly for years, but are at low risk of ever being cancelled. I know someone that was booked on YOW-YLW for this summer and needless to say they weren't happy when it was cancelled.

Vancouver International Airport looking to sell naming and sponsorship rights

Maybe we should do the same.

Telus Airport?

Frankly I've been expecting this for some time now

Would't be surprised to see large infrastructure projects also get naming rights.... the ScotiaBank LRT Line (watch out for the extra fees on your ticket)... the Rogers Bridge (may close all alnes for no apparent reason)

If we do that here, the City could try and get some revenue by renaming the airport station as well. Same with the EY Centre, why not try and hit them for a few bucks? Uplands really only serves EY anyway.

Thanks for this post.

FYI, the linked photo shows the prior KAF B747-400, tail number 10001. The newer KAF B747-8i, tail number 22001, is this bird.

https://www.airliners.net/photo/South-Korea-Air-Force/Boeing-747-8I/6917241/L

Very nice opportunity to see a rare bird (both type and operator).

a 747-8 for President of the 14th largest economy, that's a little excessive? Shows the hypocrisy of climate change policies by governments

Which more appropriate aircraft type would you suggest they use?

Currently on the way from NYC (JFK) to Toronto (YYZ). Not sure if they will fly up to YOW this evening or stay the night in Toronto. My guess would be that they fly up here tomorrow... but just a guess.

You can track the plane here: ADS-B Exchange - South Korean Air Force B748

It is not available on the traditional FlightAware or Flightradar24 tracking websites.

I find this kind of petty calling out tiresome. He is leading the 14th largest economy so being comfortable and having the proper amount of comfortable advisors with him is maybe worth the infinitesimal carbon costs. I mean I get leading by example is the thing but broad based policies will reduce carbon not fake symbolism.

Well, a Dreamliner 787 for example uses half the fuel of a 747
It's not like he has an entourage of 400 people who accompany him neither.
Excessive?? damn right

We absolutely need to call out this hypocrisy, while these same governments impose carbon taxes and caps on its ordinary citizens, they get a free pass?
