Yeah look at the treads it's like 4-5 inches wide. They learned the lesson from Amazing Brentwood and just stuck a narrow staircase to the side lol

The initial renderings all had regular stairs on that corner.

That has to be a water feature, they don't look like actual stairs.

The BC Place stats surprise me. Energy use when went up in 2011-12 compared to 2008-9?? Those fans that were used to keep the roof inflated would have used a fair amount of enery I'd figure. I believe the reno also included LED conversion inside and out, and probably had other perceived energy imporvements (the roof replacement was the main part of the reno obviously, but it wasn't the only part). So it's a shock that electricity use actually increased, something seems fishy with that.

Probably adding all those USB outlets and folks charging their laptops/phones. It's a new thing from a while back.

Ya could be. But the power draw on personal devices is so low, even assuming every attendee used them (which they certainly don't), it's hard to believe it would use more than those fans that were running 24/7. Plus all the other "Power Smart" LED conversions they did, just goes to show how much affect that really has. The only other thing I can think of is the new scoreboard/video display. I assume the old BC Place had score board and some form of video screens. And those old ones used way more energy than modern message centres, it's not even close. So guess it's just a mystery

I doubt the fans were that energy intensive considering the amount of revolving doors etc that they probably used to limit air escaping.

Although they got more efficient products (LED lights and equipment) the new equipment was used more often and left on more so the net result was a gain. It's like the Hummer driver that converts to a Toyota Prius then starts to drive two times as much if not more than that and asks why his or her gas bill is so high! The challenges of understanding the difference between efficiency and savings in the actual amount of energy being used.

The new BC Place is definitely brighter and lit(LED exterior lights) up more often year-round compared to the old one.

It was touted as operational cost savings to help justify the cost of the roof and renovation.

One thing that has changed is the addition of the Whitecaps. Another ~20 games a year or whatever probably consumes a lot of power, running all of the fridges and food service equipment.

The renovated BC Place also has more suites and other things with again, more heating and cooling equipment.

That's all I can really see. Maybe there are LEDs but also more lights, making up some of that difference.

As long as we're still off topic. Way back when, when I worked there doing concession... (and honestly all the various bits of gear likely haven't changed much since then).

- the only staff places that had heating / cooling were the offices - in the rest of the building you were at the mercy of the outdoor temps

- the fridges were on whether there was an event or not (and trade shows logged a lot more days than games did)

- there were only a few stands that had grills and deep fryers so turning them on more often wouldn't draw that much more power (there were also only a few microwave ovens inc one with braille dots)

Blowing air in there to keep the roof inflated would have used a lot of power. You got used to the pressure change walking in through the revolving doors at the east airlock / staff entrance.

I have found since driving an electric car, many people have no clue on the magnitude and costs of electricity when trying to compare things like cell phones and HVAC, or whatever.

I'm not even sure they got the number of floors correct. Look at the glass windows. Even if they represent double-height floors, it doesn't match the actual number of floors on the real building.

You'd think if they are hiring a Lego model master to make a scale model of their building, they'd at least get the model scale to make sense. This makes it look way off.
