True. We need bylaws that force developers to leave space between towers. We also need to demand active street fronts, be it retail or townhouses. We need Vancouverism.

Height limits should max out around eight storeys. Once you get into elevator buildings, you're using the skyscraper typology but kind of kneecapping it.

That's not just to take a swipe at the limits, either.

Montreal capped at eight would have really emphasized the mountain as well as the slope down from it, all while providing a pretty intense kind of Buenos Aires-style urbanity.

But once you have skyscrapers, you should let them be skyscrapers.

Not sure if it was mentioned but Calgary has restrictions regarding shadowing of the river pathway system that affects building heights. Obviously the closer to the river, the shorter the building allowed. Not really a factor on limiting height from about 6th Ave. southward as these lots are a fair distance away from the river.

Edit: This bylaw is what chopped down the height of the Bow.
