It's for sure this time. Had take out from there last night and chatted with the staff. This location is corporate operated and not a franchise. Really surprised they didn't build a new location.

FYI.. Ontario has 161 Swiss Chalet locations.

Earls is moving to Brentwood, but they are keeping the old location and rebranding it to a new concept restaurant. I can't say more due to confidentiality, but it is going to be a new Earls concept location.

The dessert/ice cream market in the lower mainland is insane right now, there's so much stuff. Whether it's gelato, or ethnic dessert places, or pastry desserts, and now Baskin Robbins is expanding more? Interesting that in a supposed inflation cycle where people would be pinching pennies, these types of places are proliferating. I guess when people can't afford actual groceries, rent/mortgage payments, or gas, the dessert market is always booming lol. It is kind of surprsing to see B&R expand here, Vancouver always seems to prefer local chains (ie. Bella Gelateria, La Case, Marios, Earnest, Rain or Shine). But probably in the suburbs B&R will do good

I do wonder how Baskin Robbins is making things work for them whereas Coldstone Creamery had to pretty much pull out of the country. Is there still that one location in Downtown?

Cold Stone is gone, along with the Tim Hortons it shared the space with. I do wonder how B&R are going to succeed, this rapid expansion seemed to come out of nowhere... They have a strong brand reputation that Cold Stone never had here, so that is a plus. And if they choose the locations carefully, they could do well (read Surrey, Poco, Langley, etc.). And likely a couple downtown, but that's already such a saturated ice cream market. Bella Gelateria is opening in the old Flight Centre on Howe, such a bizarre location for it. I guess hotel guests and some shoppers from the mall? That part of Howe isn't very nice IMO

B&R is very popular in Asia, and Korea has lots of locations. The older locations are already out in the burbs, Langley and Surrey have had locations for years.

People sometimes just want the basics, gelato is too fancy and B&R offers so much extra like their cakes.

B&R will do well if they have enough money to open some high volume/mall locations. It's a brand that will just do well wherever since pretty much everyone knows who they are even with almost zero locations here.

Sad, I had a lot of good memories eating at Swiss Chalet over my younger years.

Very exciting new restaurant coming to Alberni. Can't share any more but I think a lot of people will be pretty happy.

Also if you miss Swiss Chalet just buy a rotisserie chicken from Safeway and cook it for another 4 hours until bone dry. Voila.

Fets Whisky Kitchen at 1230 Commercial Drive to close on December 23rd.

Announcement from Facebook:

After 36 years Allura and Eric have submitted their resignation!

This past Monday we called our staff together and presented them with our letter of resignation, our last dinner service will be on Friday December 23 of this year. This last dinner service will mark over 36 years of continuous operation, well except for that little Covid thingy a couple years back.

"Our lease is up early next year, and we have decided not to renew. We feel it’s best to resign while we are on top of our game and will proudly work with our staff to make everyone’s final visits as memorable as their first. We are planning to host many whisky dinners prior to closing starting with a Waterford Whisky dinner on Sunday September 11th.

We started back in 1986 as Fettucini’s Café at 1179 Commercial Drive and moved to our current location February 6, 1996, opening as Fets Bar & Grill and rebranding to Fets Whisky Kitchen in 2013. With the help of all our staff and guests we have created Vancouver’s Premier Whisky Bar.

It’s been a heck of a ride! We have had the pleasure of working with many amazing people over the past 36 years. We have forged many great relationships over the years, and we will miss seeing everyone on a regular basis. Too many memories have been made here to count but we have cherished our time operating one of Vancouver’s longest continuously family owned and operated restaurants.

We sincerely thank everyone for supporting our business over the past 36 years!

Hmm, what to do with one of the world’s largest whisky selections?

Their lawsuit for that big seizure a few years ago seems to be ongoing?

Apparently a decision hasn't been made but the Fergie's are still fighting.

Looks like Artigiano is taking over the old Starbucks at Cambie and W 8th. It was empty for a while.

What's more incongruous the legitimate business or the bike racks out front?

Which has the shorter shelf life?
