I think there is a big $3 billion restoration project going on there, and that looks like an excavation for underground parking, & perhaps bomb shelters?
Some of the roads being so wide & so close to the buildings kind of spoils the whole area.

The excavation is for the new underground visitors centre.

Indeed. Just like the visitors centre on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. It's underground too. While the displays are nice, the guards don't let you anywhere near the Capitol rotunda. Understandable these days, but sad.

I miss the old days, when it was a lot easier to take a tour of the HoC and Senate chambers, the Library of Parliament and the Peace Tower. I suspect those days are essentially over.

BTW, there was true inspiration when they chose to locate Parliament Hill on the bluff overlooking the Ottawa River next to the Rideau Canal. It was a perfect choice.

It's still possible to visit the HoC and Senate, currently in their temporary digs in West Block and old Union Station respectively.

Unless something really bad happens, I'm sure Centre Block will re-open to visitors once the rehabilitation is over in 8-10 years.

Those are all gorgeous images and I appreciate your time and effort in finding and posting them. But don't feel obligated to post images from outside Montreal if you don't really want to.

Don't you remember when the idiot convoy folks were suggesting the big wall out front of parliament was erected to keep them out....not realizing the massive project going on for years already.

Among many things, that pit will contain the new Welcome Centre.

Seriously? I missed that one. Not surprised though; classic conspiracy theorists.

^ I think that's still my favourite angle of the skyline. I love the combination of the buildings, the mountain and the bridge. The bridge isn't very visible in that one but the cool lighting makes up for it.

Hadn't realized how many parking lots are left to develop in downtown Calgary!

Ya nice round up. I'm just waiting on some renders so I'll give it a go as well starting all the way from the east coast to the north and west.
