KF had experience with YWG through their Purolator network. The 727 couldn't get from Hamilton to YVR (possibly even Alberta), so they had to land in Winnipeg, switch the loads around and refuel. I don't imagine that hub was too popular with passengers and I don't imagine those old planes were very popular either. Not to mention, a 727 wasn't exactly "low cost carrier" friendly lol.

YWG had the old terminal in operation back then. That building was built for a different time when DC-9 were common. Seating was limited and there were limited amenities.

At that time 737-400 were common. The 727 was not as nice as the A320 but not to far off from what most people were on.

My 1st opinion is Calgary YYC- Toronto YYZ in Canada is a profitable route year round compared to a Winnipeg YWG/ Moncton YQM & 2nd opinion about it is 1 of the top reasons why (CJL) Canada Jetlines chose YYC - YYZ as its 1st Domestic route.

End of the day, as the case of all new carriers time will tell. You or Ace have your opinions, but you can’t tell the future one way or the other. All competition is good for the consumer

So, Jetlines gone by Christmas, and Lynx by the Spring? Flair's ability to remain upright continues to surprise.

Lynx actually have a meaningful amount of revenue coming in. With only one aircraft flying at not even 1/2 the aircraft’s capacity means your fixed costs per passenger are through the roof.

YYC - YYZ is good start for CJL, as they’re larger business & tourism markets year round compared to YWG/YQM.

Jetlines on their website says they are offering seats as low as $99 each way. That is a very good deal on that route. Not certain which specific days.

So I randomly picked one of the busiest travel times of the Year. Departing Calgary on December 19, returning from Toronto on December 26.

Lynx - $419 return (on their own site since they don't sell through Expedia)
Flair - $308 return (expedia)
AC - $591 return (expedia)
WS - $591 return (expedia)
Jetlines $840 return (on their site since they don't sell through Expedia).

I had to pick different days for Jetlines. They only fly a few days a week between Toronto and Calgary.

They are not going to do well with advance bookings.

For the sake of comparison I looked at a last minute booking. Leaving Calgary on Monday (tomorrow) returning the following week (all of expedia)
- Flair $734
- AirTransat $866
- WestJet $1,055
- Air Canada $1,055

Interesting, Jetlines normal fair is not unreasonable as a last minute. It does not look like they have figured out how to do discounting on advanced sales yet. They need to get their product into third party booking system as they have zero brand recognition. Given how long they have been working on this, it is something they should have figured out by now.

CATSA "soft strike" causing huge lineups at YVR:

Passengers at Vancouver International Airport faced long lines at security checkpoints on Sunday due to a shortage of security screening officers.

In a statement, YVR attributed the delays to a "significant and unexpected staffing shortage" faced by the security screening provider contracted by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), the federal Crown corporation responsible for all passenger security screening. CATSA contracts out security services at various airports to third-party employers, such as Allied Universal at YVR.

Passengers continue to be processed through security screening, but are experiencing longer than normal wait times at pre-board screening points for domestic and international departures, the airport authority said.

Travellers advised to arrive at Vancouver airport hours before flight as security screening causes delays
Video posted to social media showed a long line at a security checkpoint for U.S. departures.

The airport said additional staff have been brought in to help travellers and support security-screening staff and thanked passengers for their patience.

It recommended passengers arrive at YVR three hours before departure until further notice. It also said there have been delayed flights and passengers should check the status of their flight with their airline.

The airport said there was no significant increase in passenger numbers on Sunday. The airport averaged 67,000 passengers a day this week, while 69,000 are expected on Sunday,

"This is not the experience we want people to have at YVR and we apologize," the statement said.

I think this is where CASTA needs to site down with Allied Universal and basically tell them their contract will be terminated with cause if this continues into Monday.

As expected, AC moved KEF from the 10xx to 9xx.

YUL-KEF now uses AC 912/913
YYZ-KEF now uses AC 914/915

So European flight will occupy the first part of the 9xx series. The first non-Europe 9xx flight is AC 932 (YVR-CUN). Would that be enough though, or will they kick the rest of the 9xx series to a new number once the A321XLR is available?

I wouldn't call Toronto/Hamilton/London "the east."

There's a whole lotta east outside the GTHA.

I am disappointed that Swoop is ignoring the Maritimes entirely, but, SunWing and Air Transat tend to be our primary sun destination providers (at least out of Moncton). WestJet however has provided service from Moncton to Orlando in the past.

YOW's not new. AC's been flying it for close to two decades save during the pandemic. But it even came back for part of last winter already. It never ceases to amaze me how often the misspelling "Ottowa" comes up like in the middle of this article.

YEG is a re-introduction after an ~11 year absence.

YQR, YQM & YXU are all new indeed though. What's the schedule as this is the first I've heard of these?

Swoop just announced YXU-CUN this week, did they announce those other cities as well, by chance? I wonder if that Cancun website just mixed up the airline, maybe not realizing there are other airlines not named Air Canada here lol.
