its good to see this coming along nicely.

got to hand it to Richmond, they did this 100% correctly, and they are getting one of the, if not the, nicest station on the Canada-Line. and all paid for through the upzoning of the surrounding area.

good job Richmond. . overall, i am impressed with their leadership. they seem like a well-run city. the same cannot be said for Vancouver. that is a terribly run city.

'I think the City of Vancouver is still collecting millions per phase off the Pearson Dogwood and Cambie Gardens developments for a 57 Ave station. And it's underground which requires more moola ($150 million in 2022 dollars?) and TransLink giving it the green light, which back in 2017 it was "no".

Not sure why as I think 9k people are supposed to live in just those two developments.

It's too bad they don't have anything for 33rd in the bank. That is more valuable with the Heather Lands redevelopment, and the existence of BC Children's and Women's hospital close by.

The only station new (non-Fraser Hwy extension) Expo line station would be the 'Woodlands' station in New West (basically at Columbia and McBride). A Boundary station isn't going to happen - it became Patterson station instead.

I always wanted to see Woodlands happen, even if right now it's not at all justifiable. I saw a video somewhere where the train announcements were playing the recording for every station, and it included Woodlands. I wish I could find it.

Brighouse will probably be the most congested station in the entire system thanks to the capped headways due to single-tracking, and they cheaped out on having separate stations at Alderbridge, Westminster and Granville, leaving one station to cover most of its downtown density. Unlike Metrotown and other suburban centres where the towers drop off to houses fairly quickly, Richmond's downtown also has 4 square km of adjacent low-rise multi-family

Sorry to barge in. When Canada Line was being planned, did they ever consider a fourth station on the Downtown Peninsula? The 1.2 kilometer gap between Yaletown-Roundhouse and City Centre seems quite wide for such a dense area. Seems a station at Nelson would have been justified.

It was considered actually - a Nelson station and a Dunsmuir/Granville station (to connect directly to the Expo Line). I'm not sure if it was cost savings or complications of building a Dunsmuir Canada Line Station but they were both combined into the current Vancouver City Centre location.

It'd be great to have even one additional entrance at the Robson end of Vancouver City Centre!

Too bad they didn't at least rough-in a station between Yaletown and City Centre.

Agreed, an entrance at Robson would be beneficial. They could add some fare gates, which sorely lack at all three Downtown stations.

This post has the map:

They talked about Nelson potentially drawing catchment from the Yaletown station and costs versus combining Nelson/Dunsmuir into a single station.

Disappointing they didn't go with the initial plan. Catchment of subway stations in urban areas should and often do overlap. 400-500 meters between stations is the sweet spot in dense urban areas.

Yeah, that's one of the big failings of the line - it doesn't adequately serve Downtown South.
If they had angled the line to allow a straight section under Emery Barnes Park, they could have had a stationhouse
at Seymour & Helmcken (on a recently redeveloped site), close to the Granville strip.

Exactly, and further highlighting the fact that Vancouver has failed miserably: referring to the proposed station between Oakridge/41st & Langara/49th. *crickets*

Too few high-density development projects around any proposed station location means not enough funding to plan/design/build one.

And that would be serving a pretty rough neighbourhood along Granville Street. They should allow more nice developments there to not only help with the funding, but also for a nicer integration of the new station into a new project.

Have you got a link to show a station was proposed between W41st and W49th?

Are you getting confused with 33rd and 57th, which both had future stations planned?

Something between 41 and 49 would be overkill.
