Was that installation in Saint John part of a larger arts festival or something? Either way, it looks cool and it's nice to see the streets so packed.

I heard that Toronto closed Yonge street for 4 hours, a week ago.

That is an indication of some Serious Progressive Urbanism in a Fun Loving City..

Are there any photos of that?

Yonge street must have been packed!

More from the wonderful lens of kotsy.

Distant cranes at sunrise, before the CNE awakes for another day.

Yorkville’s mural event. Somewhat appropriate to this event, kotsy always tags/hides his handle on every photo he takes. Get out your magnifying glass.

^ Wow those are beautiful! Especially the last one with the ghost crane which gives kind of a sci-fi effect.

Love the Saskatoon set as well. I've never seen so many goslings in one place before. And it'll be awhile before I recover from the bulldog in the micro bus.

Great pictures Hali87 - especially your own - the others a bit too saturated and contrasty for my liking but the subject in interesting.

As for yours - what’s the wooden staircase going up to that light installation? Is it a temporary art light thing? Your first picture is really trippy, makes me dizzy! I’m trying to wrap my mind around stairs going up to a height away from the city in behind, usually it’s the other way around. What was the concert? Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! It's a permanent art installation called "Tidal Beacon" by a California artist named Ned Kahn, he seems to have done a lot of similar installations playing with lighting and dynamic textures. There's a few other optical illusion type art installations around the Queen's Marque area, I'm not sure whether the same artist was involved in any of those.

Examples:

Also, you can walk into the base of the tower and there's an elevator there, but you need a key to operate it and no one knows whether it goes up, or down, or what. It's like being in a real-world version of Myst. (The best guess that I've heard so far is that it's accessibility-related, but it's still not really clear where it goes/comes from)

It is a bit disorienting in person, walking vaguely towards the sky with a heavily manipulated perspective. Kind of reminds me of an engineered version of Magnetic Hill in Moncton. This is also right next to the stairs that go into the ocean.

The headliner was the rapper BBNO$ (from Vancouver it turns out - I actually thought he was from NYC until I looked that up) but the photos were taken during Pineo & Loeb / Sparkee's set (local Halifax artists who have been doing well nationally). The stage has been set up all summer and there are free concerts/events there every few days but that was one of the largest so far. It's at Grand Parade, the square/park in front of City Hall.

Forgot to express my thanks for all the great pics on this page, including the Quebec City ones and Echoes own pics from Saskatoon. I love how Rivers Landing has captured the imagination of everyone who sees it and much like Stantec in Edmonton has significantly changed skyline nerds perceptions of both cities skylines and created a sense of continued optimism on that front.

Thanks Hali87 for the explanation and other examples - light time illuminations add to the vibrancy of city life - it’s human nature to be drawn to these, like moths to a candle, but hopefully without the tragic ending, lol. Never heard of those rappers, I guess I’m behind on my rap game, been focusing too much on techno lately.

An unprovoked attack on the CN Tower by an American fighter jet on Labour Day (only light damage inflicted).

Rumours suggest the rogue pilot may have also participated in January’s Capitol Riots and been active on the website “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump” launched in May 2021.

Canada responded to the attack with our state-of-the art airforce fleet and chased the fighter back to Buffalo.
