AC still appears to be resuming LAS in a few weeks on Sept. 7 1x daily 7M8. LAX also upped to a 7M8 same day.

PHX & IAH still scheduled to resume October 30th.

That's Great! Looks like most Air Canada US flights from YYC this upcoming winter are operated by Boeing 737 Max 8, except on San Francisco SFO & Houston IAH which are on the CRJ-900.

With all the domestic WestJet reductions at YYC and other airports. Is this just being safe and reducing flights in case of staff/airport/security shortage? Seems like they cut quite a bit of seats in YEG and lesser extent YYC/YVR

Most of November 2022 seems quite similar to, or only a little less than November 2019 (at least for domestic from YYC). When they first put out their press release earlier this month, the domestic schedule was only a little more than the winter of 2021. After that they seemed to have added a lot more in November, and then it drops in December onwards (which I assume will be changed later on). It seems like they'll still make a lot of changes in the next couple of months, and it'll look a little more like recovery than it did a week ago or even now.

I suspect there is a lot going on behind the scenes.

1. Westjet - like most airlines - is trying to recover from COVID. So, they went ambitious with summer 2022 to try and make up for the lost couple of years. This revealed the operational shortcomings in their operations and operations of everything else (airports/contractors), hence the poor performance and quick retrenchment from ambitious to merely adequate at best.

2. The ULCC launches. With Lynx and Jetlines coming online this summer, there will be much more capacity come the fall. Before it was just Swoop trying to pick at Flair, now there's 4 ULCC carriers in Canada. Domestic flying goes off a cliff come the fall, so pulling back mainline and letting the ULCCs bleed each other out seems wise for many markets.

3. Operational issues with bringing Sunwing into the fold. As if COVID and coming back online wasn't enough, Onex bought Sunwing. So, a reorganization of Westjet Vacations into Sunwing and merging back-end stuff is likely in the cards.

So, pulling back to recover and getting a solid operation back together for summer 2023 is likely the strategy for Westjet. All the better if one of the new upstarts doesn't survive the winter. Withdrawing some service and increasing prices because of less capacity will cover higher fuel costs and will help pad the bottom line.

Westjet was historically the reliable second airline of Canada that focused on good quality North American service. It lost some of that focus in its ambition to be Canadian Airlines 2.0. Maybe the refocus will be what it needs.

Looks like it, at the end of October 2022 as it’s likely 1 of the seasonal routes for Lynx.

Currently the only Lynx flight routes from Calgary YYC this upcoming winter:

YYC-Toronto YYZ
YYC-Vancouver YVR

Jetlines picked a terrible time to launch. Last to the party and they missed the entire summer domestic travel season. Launching domestic in the fall when the market is saturated is going to result in heavy losses. Better to have waited till S23 to launch, or if they had to launch now, focus on YYZ sun destinations.

Further, it seems unclear exactly what they're trying to do. They're entering a market where Flair and Lynx are established, and they're going to charge more than both for the same bare bones service, at a ~13% cost disadvantage with an A320ceo vs 7M8 of the others. Good luck.

Yes , but Canada Jetlines should do okay on Calgary YYC - Toronto YYZ route 2-3x weekly on Airbus A320. As YYC has 1 of the larger Domestic passengers demand in Canada year round.

And they’re planning to fly it Thursdays through Sundays , which is aimed at attracting tourists, both directions.

Canada Jetlines will just do fine on Calgary YYC - Toronto YYZ 2-3x weekly route.

As Flair/Lynx not great OTP / some cancelled flights will help CJL at YYC.

This is a baseless conclusion as usual and I would tell you that you're wrong, but not once have you ever acknowledged that you're wrong or grasping at straws... so you're just going on my ignore list.

You're free to make your silly statements but please don't quote me when you do so as I don't want to be associated with them in any capacity.

TORONTO — Canada Jetlines has confirmed its first scheduled flight from Toronto to Calgary departing next month.

Set for its grand debut on Sept. 22, 2022 as Canada’s newest leisure airline, Canada Jetlines will begin operations with biweekly flights operating Thursdays and Sundays out of Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to Calgary International (YYC) at 7:55 a.m., and returning from Calgary to Toronto at 11:40 a.m. Frequency will increase to 3x/week, Thursdays through Sundays, starting Oct. 13.

“Canada Jetlines is proud to launch our initial flights between Toronto to Calgary, two vibrant Canadian cities with numerous tourist destinations including Niagara Falls, Lakes of Ontario, and the CN Tower in the East, and Banff, Kananaskis, Canmore, Lake Louise, Jasper and the Rocky Mountains in the West,” said Eddy Doyle, CEO of Canada Jetlines. “The two cities represent cultural diversity, economic trade and significant investment opportunities. We are encouraged to continue expanding our reach, with the goal of serving as Toronto’s preferred airline.”

Bob Sartor, President and CEO of The Calgary Airport Authority, added: “The launch of Canada Jetlines is yet another milestone marking recovery in the travel and tourism sector. YYC is eager to welcome Canada Jetlines’ guests by showcasing the effortless and memorable experiences that reflect our region and Calgary’s legendary hospitality.”

The Calgary YYC - Toronto YYZ route on Canada Jetlines is up to 4x weekly from October 13. (The article above mentioned 3x a week).

Also looks like from September 13 to until December 16 2022 the Salt Lake City SLC - Calgary YYC 1x daily flights on Delta Airlines is operated by a mix of Airbus A319/320 planes, which is increase of seats.

As currently SLC- YYC flight route is operated by Embraer 175.

Okay fair, but everyone is allowed to have a opinion on things/ regarding airlines routes, like it or not.

My 1st opinion is Calgary YYC- Toronto YYZ in Canada is a profitable route year round compared to a Winnipeg YWG/ Moncton YQM & 2nd opinion about it is 1 of the top reasons why (CJL) Canada Jetlines chose YYC - YYZ as its 1st Domestic route.

Of course you are allowed to have opinions. There are issues:

- You state your opinions as fact
- We know a lot more about how this industry works than you do and actually work in the industry, but you completely ignore us when we tell you why you're wrong
- A lot more people read these pages than you think. I have heard some of your insane takes repeated in the real world and because you phrase things as fact here and in so many forums, people take you seriously

So when you start talking about how Jetlines will perform based on Flair's OTP it almost sounds like you know what you're talking about when really you have no idea, which is dangerous.

If you make a statement in a public forum and phrase it as fact, we are allowed to call it out as baseless bullshit and remind you to clarify to readers that your opinions are not based on any kind of knowledge and more just throwing mental darts at a board.

I am starting to become more familiar with YYC, but what would be the next top N.A. and top global route that YYC would desire to have?
