They were moving some of the neon signs into the building recently

That collection of neon signs is going to add 'snazz' to The Post's interior public space. Can't wait for it to open. So much energy and life will be infused into that part of downtown. I just hope it'll stay open late.

The supermarket will open late and maybe a restaurant or two. I doubt with the kind of food they have that the food hall will probably be dead outside of office hours.

Too bad, in a way. I was hoping that a bit of "Montreal" would be infused into downtown Vancouver, but that's asking for too much, I know.

It is asking too much. Just ask Montreal's Simons: they are still waiting to enter the city centre market, but to no avail and it has been nearly a decade. I was hoping the Post would be a mix of a food hall, market and department store. Oh well at least we get the first two.

I know they are not that color without the sunset but ugh the glass looks ugly in that picture (which in itself is a nice one).

I wonder if the wonderful neon "seahorse" from the old "Only Seafood" cafe, formerly on Hastings, is included in the sign collection. Does anyone know?

I think the original was stolen and Portland Hotel created a new one but it's in storage

I think the sign was refurbished in 2011 when the Portland Hotel Society acquired the building (as the Sun piece says). It was much too big to be stolen. When it was decided to demolish the building, the sign was removed to storage. In some, but not all cases, signs were leased from the sign company, and I think that was the case here. It doesn't form part of the MoV collection, so it probably won't show up in The Post.

This seems like the most up to date article from 2021

The sign was rebuilt by Pattison Signs when Portland Hotel was going to reopen The Only. It’s now owned by the Thodos family, which has it in storage.

It makes sense that it would be back with the family that commissioned it. BC Housing wouldn't want to pay to store it, and there are still no firm redevelopment plans for the site yet. It could be combined with the non-market housing building next door to make a larger building, but it's unlikely to have a fish restaurant.

it is a phased opening I thought was the most recent plan:

South Tower + some CRU's (ie Popeyes) >> Late 2022
North Tower + internal retail (ie food hall and grocery store) + rest of the CRU's >> Fall 2033

I guess Amazon isn't taking all the space in Post? There's 40K of office in the South tower up for rent.

Suite 400 - 4th floor.
Sounds like retail space for which they could not find a tenant, now being leased as office space.

In 2020 they said they were only taking 17/18 of the south tower.
