Wow, lot of projects in the works that I've never even heard of - thanks for the comprehensive update Maldive. The proposal at Spadina & Dundas is awful though, hope it doesn't make it through SPA.

Curious... why do you think it awful? Seems at very least like a complementary (if forgettable) infill/background building for the neighbouring historic stock.

I'd imagine the glass windscreens will be much taller in reality than in the renderings.

Facadism is mostly bad, and this is a particularly egregious example of it - the tower isn't even set back from existing facades (which, logistically is also not actually possible without tearing it down & reconstructing it).

But also, it's just out-of-scale for its location. Chinatown is characterized by a mid and low-rise streetscape. A 30 storey tower doesn't add anything of value to it.

Yep. Similar to the proposal a block north on the same side of Spadina. The community will fight back hard against anything that's out-of-scale and which may displace local retailers and businesses, as well as pricing out residents. I don't blame them.

Haven't posted one of these since last August, but not a ton of change... well a lot of change really with many new and removed cranes, but the net result is almost the same.

Last year at this time 182 cranes dotted the metro Vancouver skies, today it's up to 188. Still some work to go to get to the previous peak of 202 a few years back.

I've also now added a little tracker at the bottom tracking how many of these cranes are working on highrise buildings. This isn't the total amount of highrises U/C in Van, that number is higher, just how many highrises that happen to have a crane working on them at this moment.

The new Sick Kids building is huge. And it blows my mind that they're putting a pedestrian bridge across the street from above the official entrance to the main hopsital. Perhaps because it looks strange.

The bridge is unfortunate. It ruins the look of the Atrium wing. Underground would be costly and likely impractical and a short run to the southern half of the Atrium building which is presumably not a public area would require interior modifications to make it so. It is what it is.

Wow. Look at the did the corner details Reisman Innovation Centre. The angle of inclination is perfect allowing a consistent look. I'm not keen on phase 2. This one already has a sizable street frontage but, I'm definitely warming up to it.

My (thankfully rarely visited) office is right behind Reisman - the details up close really look fantastic. It's a great project, though I could see an argument for changing it up between phases. Still should have a better street presence than the buildings being replaced, despite still being handsome structures and a loss in their own right.

I wish the Foster + Partners (U of T's Leslie Dan Big Pharma and Opioid production facility)... across the street to the right, was 10 storeys taller in the (out-dated) aerial rendering I posted.
