Two billionaires that have partial ownership in pro franchises or who have had interests in buying pro franchises have direct ties to Austin. We all know who they are and I'm not talking about Musk. They could easily buy in if they wanted to get in the "game." They also could easily finance the building of said arenas or stadiums because we all know they would have to be a privately financed endeavor without any public assistance. Think Stan Kroenke with the L.A. Rams and So-Fi stadium or the new 76er's privately funded 1.3b arena in DT Philly. I would not be shocked if one day news breaks that Dell or Ellison has bought a Big 4 team to be located or relocated to the Austin metro. Also not sure because of flood plain issues or flight path issues but the Dog's Head would make for a great sports venue location.

Yeah, agreed 100000%. The Spurs ARE San Antonio. Period. It's cute they're playing at the UT arena, but that move will never happen.

For obvious reasons...I don't want to see it happen either. However, I am worried. S.A. city leaders are too focused on trying to land another pro franchise that they may end up loosing the Spurs. Even Nelson Wolff went off on them the other day and I loved it!!! He was 1000% spot on.

I don't think the Spurs are worried about the team moving to the ATX. They're more worried about Vegas, Seattle and possibly Nashville. Moving forward I think it's going to be extremely difficult for the Spurs to attract top tier free agents to the city regardless of how die hard the fan base might be.

I work in the sponsorship industry. The Spurs have to gain Austin/International eyeballs to overcome the lack of corporate presence in San Antonio. That’s what this is about, and will be about. Very well-supported from a fan perspective, but on the lower end for corporate in the NBA.

What I found most interesting about this is that the dates they chose are not during the Spurs' annual rodeo road trip. Originally that was supposedly one of the reasons they were looking at this.

I do not see the Spurs moving to Austin, but I do see them playing more and more games in Austin over time. unless these are a complete flop, which I highly doubt, 2 per year is definitely not the final number. I'm guessing it slowly ramps up to 10-20 games here. These games will have much higher ticket prices and concession revenue than in SA and they will try to get Austin corporate dollars as well.

No I’m an avid basketball fan and have read up on this situation, the Spurs are not leaving San Antonio… ever. It’s like someone else said, they’re doing this to fill in the gap from corporate sponsorships and to grow the Spurs fanbase more directly in Austin. And if they ever left SA, they’re not gonna leave TX. C’mon now, this is where they’ve got the most support and neighboring states in the US and Mexico also tune into the Spurs as a result. Monterrey is all Spurs territory.

It’s not gonna happen but it’s literally more likely that the ATX gets an expansion NBA team a few decades from now than the Spurs leaving SA.

Well, we now know when they'll be playing in Austin. Schedule was just released. They'll be playing April 6 and 8 against Portland and Minnesota respectively.

Yea I don't think our neighbors down south have to worry about the team leaving.

I'm a big Spurs fan. No way would I want them to ever relocate. The Spurs are such a huge source of pride for San Antonians. Austin will get a "Big 4" pro league team in due time.

I've been screaming for an MLB team to relocate here. Put a stadium at the old American Statesman area with the skyline as a backdrop.

San Antonio needs an MLS team to rival with the other Texas teams.

Yeah, I can easily see SA getting MLS team before the Spurs ever leave.

Omg. Imagine...the games against Austin FC would be legendary mwahaha.

I wish this too and it would be PERFECT for a stadium but I believe the high rises would be a better choice as they're more further down in approvals and such

...there's always Butler Shores. Would it be a problem if they replaced baseball fields with a baseball field?

Well, that's not going to happen. There are too many cities with deeper pockets and the league is already up to 29 teams (with the 2023 addition of St. Louis). I don't think they'll expand past 32 teams - leaving only 3 spots.

Never really thought about that spot tbh! But it doesn't seem big enough unless they expand on Lady Bird Lake which I highly doubt they would

I was thinking the baseball fields over at Krieg Fields near Oracle would be a perfect spot but it will be a traffic NIGHTMARE. Not sure how they can handle a possible 35k-40k capacity unless we have a BRT line

I always thought that spot would have been perfect for our MLS stadium.
