^ They've made it work for the last 23 years, though. It's not shocking that someone like Steve Ballmer with a billion dollar+ asset like the Clippers in a city like LA is going to eventually want his own building.

By contrast, the Calgary teams all have the same owner and WHL, AHL and lacrosse players probably aren't going to be quite as picky as NBA players. If they have to practice at a community rink once in a while I don't think it will be a huge deal. I know the Hitmen in particular have made ample use of the rink at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex.

London used to get game every second or so years, usually featuring the Flyers due to the corporate connection of the team's parent company and the operator of the arena. We did get a Panthers-Stars game which I think might be the last one here, 6 years ago. A year or so later, a small town north of London won Hockeyville and hosted the Leafs when Tavares made his debut. There was talk that would have been played in London but they did end up playing in Lucan to 1500 or so people. Hopefully post-pandemic, they can get back to getting a game here every other year or so. We also used to get the Raptors every so often as well, not as frequently though.

Maybe it's just an illusion, but it almost seems like people in the top rows will have their view blocked by the awning.

Toronto really should get something better than this basic stadium in a parking lot.

Likely because the North and South stand additions are temporary, although I haven't seen any confirmation one way or the other yet.

It did. In 1989. It still is there today. I think the province is still paying for it too (however indirectly on the provincial debt), now in 2022.

For a few World Cup games? The payoff isn't there IMO.

Well, Quebecers paid for an NHL arena in Quebec City

Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Regina... they all have bigger, nicer stadiums than Toronto. Even MacMahon; I know it's due for a major refresh or replacement, but at least it looks imposing and big league (by Canadian standards) from afar.

Only stadiums that BMO maybe beats is TD Place (though it's in a proper entertainment district) and Tim Hortons (very strange location in the middle of a residential area, yet feels nicer than BMO).

Won't mention Olympic Stadium in Montreal.

Olympique is a dump which would have required hundreds of millions in renovations to even be in the discussion for hosting any matches.

SkyDome is currently looking at $350M to simply be brought up to present-day MLB standards as a baseball stadium. Not feasible for World Cup.

I'm not defending this plan for BMO, in case some of you are getting things twisted, but the current plans are still better than any alternative plans.

The SkyDome. Sold it for a song to Rogers Communications. At least it's still very much active and will be getting significant investment as part of the refresh.

The BMO World Cup expansion is perfectly adequate. It will achieve the goal of enabling spectators to attend World Cup matches.

I think this BMO design might be more of a frankenstadium than good old Winnipeg Stadium and Taylor Field. It just needs some green paint and bolts on the side for full Frankenstein effect.

While it obviously meets World Cup requirements, BMO looks absolutely ridiculous.
