This is kind of a crapy pic but I thought I'd post it anyway. I took the pic with my cell phone on maximum magnification from McNabs Cove. The height of the crane for this, Richmond Yard's tallest building, is impressive and one can see how this development is going to help resolve the table top Halifax skyline....at least from the south.

Worked with a student last year to test out a few techniques. Here are the google street views he made - totally forgot to share them with anyone.

They are just a test but I figure some of your may find them entertaining.

This is neat. I wonder if it's possible to turn a rendering into a sort of 3D object and place it into Streetview instead of the red box?

I like this idea. I think the dark red solid object is overly visually heavy.

Some developers provide 3D modeling in the application phase. If I had access to them then I may be able to create something like you're referring to. I'd love to test that out!

Yep, they used Blender. I recently taught a workshop at the school or architecture on how to do it. Would you want me to show you how?

Agreed, the dark red is pretty brutal! But this was just a test from him to show the massing. He picked this skill up in a few months, I'm super proud he managed to get anything done at all! haha

A construction permit was just issued for 2755 KING STREET. This is the residential building on the eastern edge of the site fronting on King Street Plaza. It is listed as 13-storeys, 173 unit mixed-use building.

If you drive southbound on Robie now, the corner with Almon St has been completely transformed with the removal of all the old structures that had been there to open up the property for additional development. This is a very impressive-looking project in terms of scope.

It really is--I know this has been mentioned before, but this project, especially the tallest tower, really transforms the way parts of the North End feel. Southbound on Massachusetts Avenue, northbound on Robie, etc., this thing looms (I mean that in a good way). From my Hydrostone attic it pops up above the rooflines of nearby houses and, along with the towers on Young, is creating a new mini skyline.

This whole intersection is going to be dramatically different in a few years--thousands and thousands of new people in The Elevation, Richmond Yards, whatever finally occupies the Bloomfield site, and whatever else is surely to come (I'm certain we'll see some proposal for the northeast corner in the near or medium term, and hopefully for the Shoppers site too).

Speaking of the intersection itself, it is unfortunate that in its infinite myopia, HRM failed to engage the developer for a few feet on the southwest corner to add to the Robie St ROW to improve that intersection. I went through there yesterday afternoon and only a single vehicle at that traffic light cycle could get onto Almon eastbound.
