Great update Martin, good photos too.

Bizarrely enough, I really like the 295 Queen project.

This one's kind of interesting, Moffatt's Pharmacy phase 1 in Dartmouth. There is a bigger tower planned next door for phase 2.

Not a fan of 256 Queen. The use of new brick against old rarely looks good.

The glassy parts do nothing for me. They should have left the round brick "decals" alone and copy and pasted the existing windows in the places that didn't have any. The addition actually is nothing. They couldn't even make it look symmetrical to match the modified base.

This is where a glass and steel addition would have worked better. Something modern looking would have been more complimentary.

I took hundreds of photos of construction sites across Canada until suddenly I lost interest in sharing them ha. Vancouver's construction has mostly moved to the suburbs like Coquitlam, Richmond and Burnaby and of course the Oakridge area. There's a handful of interesting projects but like most of Canada, mediocrity reigns supreme. Maybe I'll post them some of them soon.

Yesterday I was on my way to Hamilton when I took a detour to check out the rather good-looking newish Binbrook public library, then changed my direction ending up in Port Colborne. Here's South Port Condos which unfortunately is going to get hideous cladding.

On the way home, Dunnville is still rather dead, although it has a large collection of historic homes; Cayuga, York and Caledonia rather nice, although the latter is exploding with new SFH growth. I rather enjoyed my route through the Dutch heartland and the Grand River.

The Three Sisters Along the River, Moncton NB, 3x15 storeys mixed use development, current status:

Tower two will begin construction in 2024, and tower three in 2026.

I fully expect comments regarding the ocean of surface parking in the neighbourhood, but there are plans afoot to reduce this substantially within the next 10-12 years or so, especially an expected transformative development behind Assumption Place, including the Downing Street area.

When the dust settles, the scale of Toronto's downtown is going to look nuts.

Y'all may get the impression I hate Calgary; not true: I was rather sad to leave the city for Edmonton on Saturday, 16th July. (OTOH, I was relieved to be escaping Deadmonton the following Monday morning.)

One of the most interesting new rental buildings I saw, CY 33 by rndsqr in Marda Loop:

The new library was disappointing: the location 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵, having the C-train underneath makes it exhausting circulating up through the library (I took the stairs), the books are an afterthought and then there's the depressing views of mediocrity going up around it:

My beef with Cowtown is ... why were so many heritage homes and buildings torn down for parking lots?
Iirc, this was taken from the Mission Safeway - I met a beautiful redhead here.

Somewhere north of the Bow River - Mt Pleasant/Tuxedo Park? I enjoyed driving around this area including Capitol Hill, Hillhurst & Rosedale

Here's an ugly one

I slept in my car right around the corner from this one in Eau Claire

Another ugly new rental on Bowness Rd NW - I stopped at Fringe Coffee. The neighbourhood reminds me of a larger Belmont Village in Kitchener.

Downtown Red Deer - old historic main streets that are mostly empty. - maybe a new hospital building?

I am puzzled why downtown Edmonton around the Ice District is just an empty wasteland?

The Ice District is built on what were until recently the northern fringes of downtown... the arena sits on what used to be a railyard. It's an empty wasteland because it was literally warehouses and marginal uses until not all that long ago.

If you remember what the area around Scotiabank Arena looked like in 1999, then you will understand the situation around Rogers Place.

There's much to love, and hate, about Winnipeg. The area around rndsqr's 90 Alexander is a good example: on the one hand, rich kids are moving in pushing out the poor; on the other, there's still plenty of rundown vacant properties and grunge. This project is taking forever it seems.

Around the corner on James Avenue

Not shown: the atrocious grey stucco SFH template sprouting up in the suburbs. Yuck.
Back to Toronto for a quick look at 7 Dale in Rosedale

The Bright Building

Uptown Waterloo

Other than SFH, it honestly feels like there's more construction happening in KW than between Squamish and Barrie.
