Man that substation is looking more and more incongruous. I'm not intimately familiar with Moncton's electrical infrastructure but I believe it's less complex than Saint John's, where we're in the process of consolidating two waterfront substations (Smythe St and Union, basically one at each end of Union) at a third and more appropriate location (between Paradise Row and the throughway). Is there a second substation close enough to consolidate this one to? Or a site not useful for anything else nearby? For example, could this go on top of the old landfill?

Once the Three Sisters is complete, I imagine this land will become too valuable for this substation to remain. It could easily be relocated I imagine.

I totally agree. Looking at the GNB property map, that lot extends to the corner, not just the fenced in area around the substation. So it would be another prime piece of land for something a little more appealing. Eventually I believe it will be moved.

Early on in this project I talked about the possibility of this being moved prior to the completion of construction and modify the third phase of the project to go all the way to Assumption. I don’t think it would be that big of a deal to modify that little bit. One thing I do wish they had don’t though, was out the parking lot behind the building. As it stands, if you’re on lutz, it’s going to look like the second tower is behind the coop building rather than being prominently on a street front. I shouldn’t be surprised though, as the city’s tallest building, Assumption place, is also not directly fronting a street.

Nice picture.

One more floor to go. This might be topped off in the next 10-14 days.

They have now started the 15th floor penthouse for the first sister. Once this is complete (probably by the end of next week), I'll take a few pictures of the building topped off.

Is anyone else impressed by the pace with which this building is progressing? When compared to other projects, this one seems to be going fast! Kudos.

Techically it's only 1/3 done. But yes, I get your point, and agree. Some MUCH smaller buildings have progressed much slower.

Great pic. The only thing that is more impressive than these buildings is maybe the opportunity this pic shows for more, big infill. SOO much space.

Very interesting photo.

I lifted the link for those of us too lazy to go to Facebook to look at it:

I am of the same mind as Vorkuta. Most people look at the blight of surface parking south of Main Street with derision and dismay. Personally, I look at all this under-utilized land and see nothing but opportunity.

What other city in the region has this much virgin land in it's core ready for redevelopment. With proper city planning, and with enthusiastic and civic minded developers, just imagine what downtown Moncton could look like in 50 years time. There is room down there for 15-20 developments the size of the Three Sisters. This could mean 10,000-15,000 new downtown residents. Just imagine the impact that could have on the dynamism of the core!!!

Bring it on I say.................

Every time I see these shots of the three sisters project, I cringe at the sight of that darn electrical sub station. The sooner it's relocated the better! Unfortunately, I think it'll be there for a while.

Well, with everyone working from home now, there's pretty much no more need for all this asphalt flat land. So now's the time to start building upwards!

Now the the 1st tower is topped out will they go straight to work on the second tower? They already have the foundation completed which leads me to believe maybe they will?

Not really.

The timeline is to build the first sister in 2022-23, followed by the second sister in 2024-25 and finally the third sister in 2026-27.

The construction of each new tower is contingent on how well rentals are proceeding in the previous towers.

My gut is telling me tower #2 will be built in any event, but that construction of tower #3 will not proceed unless market conditions are right.

More people are working from home, but it's certainly not everyone.

And the hybrid model is popular. Employees get to do the job from home part time and also go to the work place part time.

It will be interesting to see what the market for apartments is in Moncton after the 2nd tower is built and they're looking at doing the 3rd tower. There's a lot of inventory under construction now, and a lot more planned.
