Totally agree. I can't say I'm thrilled about a scenario where it's 2022 and Glen Murray is objectively the best candidate in a Winnipeg mayor election (would have expected a new generation of capable leaders to emerge by now), but that's certainly where it looks like things are headed and I would have no hesitation to vote for him on that basis.

I wouldn't vote for him because I want him to keep doing what he's doing for the Bombers

But what about....but what about....?

Man, what it is with you people?

One act does not beget the other. Trudeau making poor choices does not excuse Klein from partying with a verified 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 abuser and 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵, and vice versa.

Not a hard concept to grasp. Aside from than the fact that Trudeau has absolutely no relevance in a Winnipeg election discussion.

However he seems to live in your head rent free, so much so that you can't form a sentence without thinking about him and how he's wronged you in your life.

And yet folks here have no problem supporting a quitter like Murray, quit as mayor, left Winnipeg as quick as he could to chase any political office that would have him, it's all about Glen Murray all the time!

And do we need a soon to be 65 year old senior mayor?

I agree, not great. But which candidate has more relevant experience, ideas and capability? None, so far as I can tell.

I don't quite understand this take. I am not into politics at all and usually don't have much of a comment.

Doesn't this happen all the time in the business world? People leave jobs to chase better jobs elsewhere. Why is it different here? The mayor position doesn't exactly pay top dollar, so if there was an opportunity to move up with better pay and an iron clad pension who wouldn't try for it?

Well first off, you would want to have someone as mayor who actually wants to live here....that would be a start, no?

Murray is as wishy washy as they come, heck even the Green Party figured him out!

I'd actually prefer a mayor who has lived in other places and has a broader experience to draw from than what's happening within the perimeter highway.

I had a meeting with Murray last week about the project he is working on with his company....its creating software that allows cities to calculate the economic uplift (from taxes) that public investments will have in different areas. It will allow cities to target the most effective places for public investment. Waterfront Drive is the example. The city built a road and it spawned millions in new development and taxes. He knows this stuff so deeply that I was thinking to myself as I was listening, what other candidate would be working on something like this while not in public office. He lives and breathes cities. I don't care that he's been mayor before, or that he moved to Ontario and came back. To me, he is by far the most knowledgeable and will take the most risk.

So hasn't this been answered.

Apparently it is better everywhere in Canada and the world to live yet he came back to Winnipeg. To me that says that he wants to live here. He was in Toronto and that is centre of the universe and chose to move back. I'm sure he could have stayed.

In Murray's defense, it is not unusual for prominent politicians (thinking Winnipeg mayors and provincial premiers) to leave town for a while after stepping down from office. It's understandable.

Certainly not only a Winnipeg problem either. I was just in Edmonton. Across the street from their $500 million arena there is a large homeless camp. Tents line the street around some community services building.

^ Definitely not just a Winnipeg thing. All western Canadian cities are dealing with similar situations to varying degrees. But the problem does seem more pronounced and visible in Winnipeg.

It's a national problem (well....international, but let's keep the focus somewhat manageable). IMO people need to 1) stop thinking it's just local and use it as an excuse to trash their home town 2) stop thinking it's everywhere else but here and use it as an excuse to trash someone else's town and 3) stop using it as an excuse to trash the homeless just to pump up their own sense of self worth. This is an issue that demands a concerted national effort from all levels of government AND the business community.

Mainstreet research poll out Murray 29 % Gillingham 10 % Motkaluk 4%. 44% of voters undecided though in the poll.

Klein says he won't get involved in "political mud wrestling," will only talk about his own candidacy.

Certainly hasn't followed this philosophy is his political career thus far, but I guess he knows anything he says can be met with one word, Nygard.

Well we tried a wealthy crook. That turned out well.
We tried a young ( claims to be Metis ) Bowman and that turned out extremely well didn't it. Like he's been invisible for the last few years.

Murry is the only one in the last 20 plus years that actually did anything as Mayor. So what he went to be in the big chair. He was still Mayor for 6 years. He also has more experience then anyone else.

Sorry I'll take Murry over any of these other clowns.

They did this in the south of Winnipeg which actually does decide the winner and Murry was at 44%.
