A violent zombie randomly stabs a police officer in the head, causing the officer serious injury, and idiot activists are on news crying how it's the police presence that is making their ghetto a more scary place to live. These imbecile professional crime apologists have melted their brains even worse than the zombies roaming the streets.

Don't forget Singapore and Tokyo - not so safe after all, I guess.

Care to share a link? The only local I saw quoted on Global was passing through in her car, and questioned why it was necessary to shoot the alleged attacker, rather than deploy a taser or use non-lethal projectiles (the guns that look like a shotgun fire rubber bullets). Her question seemed reasonable, given the number of people around, and the potential for somebody else in the area getting shot accidentaly.

The police are supposed to de-escalate conflicts, and not bring guns to a knife fight.

Being struck on the head with possible lethal force at close range? They'd be totally justified in shooting. The officer is reportedly in hospital with a serious head injury.

Right, but depending on the situation you can also taze him like the Mounties at YVR. That guy didn't even have a knife.

Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

The police have a lot of tools in their kit that range from doing nothing to shooting with live bullets. I think something within that spectrum could have done the trick.

We have no idea what the exact conditions were that lead to this individual being shot. It could be the case that a cop wanted a bit of revenge after being cut and decided to be Judge Dredd, but it also could be the case that the assailant was going for the bayonet charge on an innocent bystander and needed to be dropped immediately. Believe it or not, there is a reason cops carry firearms. Sometimes a situation needs to be deescalated as rapidly as possible and a taser isn't always going to stop someone ready to end someone else's life. Sometimes deesculation means someone has to die. It's a shitty call, but sometimes it has to be done.

I don't think it's worth speculating whether these were hero cops or evil pigs. There will probably be an investigation and a verdict and if we're lucky some details might come out. Maybe let's wait before baseless speculation from both sides here.

According to this they did try to taser him:

Now, now. OBVIOUSLY our resident armchair besserwissers and crime apologists, who were nowhere near the scene, still know best what should have happened when your partner is out of blue stabbed to the head next to you. The amount of mental gymnastics some people go through to defend criminal filth is unglaublich!

Considering how violent ghetto DTES has become, the police has all the reasons to pull the trigger way more often than they do. It is unbelievable how anyone has the mental energy to put themselves in danger daily with these zombies.

Has Canada Post already resumed delivery in the ghetto?

If I'm totally out to lunch and someone's life was in eminent danger, I will happily eat my words. And if four gunshots were required to resolve the conflict so be it. But I don't know how anyone could blame me or anyone else for being skeptical that a police officer's use of force was totally justified.

Will the police watchdog's report be made public?

Some would say that putting oneself in harm's way is part of a police officer's job description. And that restraint is perhaps the most important attribute for anyone in power.

Three months ago.

And in other news OPS and the DTES Market collected garbage yesterday from people on the street. City Engineering picked it up.

Calling human beings "zombies" is utterly sickening, wtf is literally wrong with you?

You and Vin this entire thread have shown a propensity for hatred and desire to harm these people.

Have some goddamn empathy, jesus fucking christ.

And yet you, who was also nowhere near the scene, knows what is best? And best is whatever vents your emotions upon these genuinely frustrating and complicated situations?

"It's not complicated, just shoot!" doesn't require a lot of mental gymnastics, nor maturity, nor considerate thought.

Scary? Maybe. Dangerous? Kind of pushing it.
Everyone feels dafe hiding behind the shield of a bus window. Try walking there
on those sidewalks every single day.

You wouldn't be saying that if you were the officer being stabbed on the head.

Like your fake sympathy has done anything for those people in the DTES. Out of sight, out of mind and let them rot there is more in line with what you are supporting.

Over in North Vancouver - another Vancouver zombie going berserk:

Quote:
Vancouver man charged in assault of homeless man in West Van

Police arrested Olson days after seeking public help in identifying the suspect captured on a surveillance camera.
Finally, this zombie isn't released after his arrest.
