Motkaluks campaign so far has been abysmal much much worse than her 2018 campaign. No policy proposals whatsoever and zero campaign energy or social media presence other than a terrible Twitter page with a tiny following of 850 people and very little content whatsoever. If her campaign is this bad Klein should consider giving it a shot as the right wing candidate.

Proposal from Gillingham re: Portage Place

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/winnipeg-election-portage-place-mall-1.6533816

IMO nice to see a candidate specifically talking about PP. Gillingham has surprised me with some of his recent announcements. My first impressions were that he was just another caretaker Mayor wannabe, content to just keep promising to fix a few potholes and hope Winnipeg's problems resolve themselves.

I don't know if his proposals are all workable, or even preferable, but he seems to be the candidate most serious about addressing a variety of issues. I suppose i'd say he looks the most "mayor-ish", if that's a word.

Conversely, I've been really disappointed by Glen Murray so far. IMO he hasn't really set out any kind of vision for the city as I'd hoped he would.

He has been running a good campaign so far but I still have reservations with him being so buddy buddy with Bowman and city council after how abysmal they have been.

From the FREEP article talking about Gillinghams's housing plan. This line had me cackling:

Jenny Motkaluk called it “unrealistic” and “unproductive.”

“His approach sounds an awful lot like central planning, which the Soviets taught us is a bad idea,” Motkaluk said.

Motkaluk's is a campaign in bad faith.

She can't even give a somewhat coherent answer to the question of "why?"

Why do you want to be mayor? What do you want to do for Winnipeg?

Even the fringest of fringe candidates have some ideas and want a better city. She's just a proxy of the provincial PC's trying to break government and line her own pockets in the short and long-term.

Hilarious. With her political trajectory I'm waiting for her to drop "Let's go Brandon" in her next speech. Hopefully she'll lose big-time and we can hear her ranting about rigged elections, fake news and witch hunts.

Probe research poll just out Murray 44% Gillingham 16% Ouellette 13% Motkaluk 8%. Obviously voters go by name recognition in this town and most people i think barely would know who anyone on city council is.

^ in this case, I am happy that name recognition is apparently the key factor.

I guess if Mike O'shea ran for mayor he would get 85% or more of the vote.

From CBC website:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/winnipeg-mayoral-poll-july-2022-1.6535025

This is interesting. As I said before I've been disappointed by Murray's lack of policy statements so far. I don't doubt his polling has shown similar numbers. He's always been quite progressive in the past; is he holding back on too many specifics to avoid scaring away too many voters?

On the plus side, Motkaluk is a distant 4th place in this poll.

Name recognition is hugely important but to be fair, he was also the best mayor the city has had in a generation.

I wonder if this commanding lead will make Klein to think twice about risking his councillor job.

Kevin Klein said he's going to enter the mayoral race. He must see Motkaluk has zero chance as the right wing candidate in this race.

Not that I have any love for Klein, but is there anything preventing a candidate from running for both mayor and council simultaneously, and having a by-election if you win both?

Yeah. You aren’t allowed to run for both. Tough choice to pass up a good job for the brass ring.

If anything Klein enters the race as the only serious candidate in the mayors race!

Quitter Murray, Clueless Gillingham, Robert Clown Ouellette, Jenny Mutt-don't-look and a host of loonie tunes and nut jobs round out the rest!

Can't believe the grifter lazy, do nothing Schreyer is running unopposed, at least Lukes, Browaty, Chambers and Mayes (also all unopposed) actually work for their salary!

Best part of Klein running is that he will lose his job as councillor. I was hoping a few others would jump in too. Gillingham is actually a decent councillor. I wish he’d bail and be in Murray’s EPC.
