No I wasn’t referring to you complaining - rather posters on Wayne Long’s feed. Honestly though I don’t see it as a “sea weedy” area when I look at photos of current rocks and sea floor.

Gotcha. I share your resentment for the Facebook commentators.

Regarding the seawall, I had not noticed any progress from either Water Street or the Harbour Bridge. I'm glad to be wrong.

I'm a little perplexed how the 'public space' portion of the Quay can start if the seawall is not complete and Harbour Passage can't be extended along the edge of the site. I agree on the stairs- it's not a silly little bureaucratic 'safety' thing but an actual 'someone will fall down the algae covered stairs immediately' issue.

It's not an area with sea weed but it is an area with incredible currents. It's not safe to enter, IMO.

I think you are conflating the public space/boardwalk work with the Fundy Quay project. The tender issued by the City for the public space work is to be completed by Dec 31. The Quay site is to be released to the developer in phases, starting with the area where the first building is to be constructed-supposedly starting in July.

I'll be watching the Council packet for Monday's meeting - I wonder if the tender results will be discussed now? I would hope that this receives immediate attention so construction can begin sooner rather than later.

I was referring to the Passage extension that is supposed to hug the perimeter of the Quay, directly along the seawall. Or is that not part of this particular 'public space' bid?

Growth committee packet is out for next week with a few numbers.

159 residential units created between January and June.

343 building permits issued, 20 below the 5 year average.

$63.1 million in construction project value, 5 year average is 70.5

It also shows 15 projects with over 1600 residential units.

These stats clearly show the cost of doing construction is chipping away at our performance. I would love to see a breakdown of the 15 projects like if it includes complete buildouts of projects like Fundy Quay and Technology Drive.

This would explain the excavation behind Boars Head I mentioned a while back.

Saw a notice on Facebook saying large industrial equipment is being transported from lower cove to the port. Wondering if that's the 2 additional cranes being shipped over? Or maybe more retaining walls for the sea wall on the west side?

It’s definitely not the cranes. The cranes will come in standing on a ship and they’ll unload them directly onto the dock at the west side. Transporting those giants on our roads would be impossible.

Curious as to who posted it?

From Port Saint John Facebook

"Advisories for Lower Cove and West Side:

Lower Cove: Beginning Monday, July 25th, a heavy lift vessel will be discharging components of sizeable industrial equipment over a 2-3 day period. The equipment will be moving to its final destination in East Saint John via trucks over a 6-7 day period.

West Side: Due to the ongoing modernization project on the west side of the port, personnel coming and going from facilities in the area will be rerouted along the Bay Ferries truck route from 9pm-5am starting Monday, July 25th and continuing into the fall."

It was also announced that $8 million will go toward the planning phase of the New Brunswick Museum project. Of this, the provincial government is contributing $4.6 million and the federal government is providing $3.8 million.

“In addition, we are committed to confirming a permanent home for the New Brunswick Museum in Saint John soon, and we are taking important steps to ensure that everyone understands the complexity and full scope of this project so that we get it right. We will be making a larger announcement in the near future related to funding this important project for the province of New Brunswick.”

Quite a lot of activity at Lower Cove right now. The city is brining in dump trucks full of fill for the area around Tin Can. There is a ship at the dock and one of the bigger Irving mobile cranes is down there with multiple flatbed trucks idling. Whatever it is, is sitting in the ship right now.

Wonder if this is equipment to upgrade the LNG terminal for export capacity?

I don’t know if we are at the stage yet where Repsol would start purchasing equipment.

The ship did come from Houston and being an oil and gas giant city it is likely related to some sort of energy project.

I see in Huddle that Wayne Long is hinting at some further Fed funding for the NB Museum. (in addition to the 4m already pledged). I suspect that the Douglas Ave location will be renewed with a seperate storage and warehousing facility somewhere else.
