Yeah, I wish it was 35 floors. Slight bit more height variation for the area.

Amazing shot Urbanarchit. rarely seen angle. The contrast between the heritage Dominion Observatory and the modern Dow's Lake skyline .

Weird things going on at this building. Windows are now being reinstalled so I guess whatever the problem was has been fixed however nothing has been lifted to the roof. Mechanical and roofing material are normally lifted up before the tower crane is removed. Not sure if a mobile crane will reach 30 stories.

This one also seems to moving in slow motion. Looking back to photos from early April, window wall installation seems like it hasn't progressed at all?

The strike really affected this one, but things seem to be picking up again. I feel like I've seen more progress in the last 3 weeks than the last two months

I'm still trying to deal with the fact that I like a Roderick Lahey Building (so far).

I snagged some shots when I went by on the bus yesterday and noticed they have picked up the pace again on the windows. Missed my chance to post I guess.

There must have been a two month span with no windows installed.

I am really liking what I see so far. You get a much better idea now than when there was only a couple floors done.

Drove by on Sunday, looking sharp. A lot of the windows would be spandrel in other projects.

I'm really hoping this will be a trendsetter for Mastercraft Starwood and RLA. They were the original source of the charcoal brick/punch hole window/white trim plague that has overtaken this city when they built the first three Soho projects, and now they have come together on something much much better.

I wonder if the balconies will have matching reflective glass?

It looks like the podium, floor separation, and continuous vertical bands use black fiber cement or aluminum composite cladding, but the black panels with vents on top use black spandrel glass. It's a really nice touch to give some extra depth and reflection.

I agree, looks quite nice. It's an easier order to place a window wall continuous (at the vents as well) and only cap the concrete with sandwich panels.

Note: also attempted at the Andaz, but in 10 different colours it was not quite so nice.

I still say there is something not right with this build process. Anytime I go up Preston St both construction hoists are sitting on ground. If one is moving it only has a couple of people in it. At this point it should almost be fist fights with trades trying to get their material and workers in the elevators with trucks lined up down the street. I have a service call coming up at Icon. I will see if I can get a through slab photo or two from across the street to see what is (not) going on.

I absolutely love this part of Ottawa. I have largely given up on the stumpy CBD but I really like the look of these two buildings (and some of the proposed/newer ones in Westboro. Icon is not perfect, especially when you nitpick some of its details up close. That said I think it is very much over-hated and quite a bit nicer than so many of the boxy stumps elsewhere. By Ottawa standards it is one of my favourites without a doubt.
