Picture in your mind, a beautiful lakefront house asking $2.4M
Then look at this
Nothing says luxury like the central air unit at the front next to the entry

Why the awnings? Like why are you purposely trying to uglify the house? I posted one last year from Burlington with awnigs over each window but at least that was old and not renovated. Can't think of a reason why they'd do it to this house.
Anyway, next door I'm pretty sure I posted that South Beach knockoff a couple of years ago. I wasn't calling it ugly, but extremely plain. Like they could have added some subtle accent pieces to it so it doesn't look like a house you buy at Ikea. Here's next door:
Drove by this vestige today in Preston, Cambridge. It's ugly but also loveable. Like it's some beat up old car from the 70s that sat in your dad's driveway for 20 years before some farmer gave him 50 bucks for it so he could put it down on an empty piece of land a hundred feet away from the farmhouse and let grass grow tall around it.
In recent years there was someone arrested for a shooting and someone arrested for arson.
Saw these in DT Kitchener today. Looks like half of it is condemned? And... it goes back to at least 2009. Since it looks like one half is rentable, I guess the landlord is not ready to sell or knock the whole thing down and redevelop? Or maybe the city hasn't given the green light for the redevelopment yet. This is in the Heritage District.
And 100 yards up the street is quite the opposite. Something that was rather simple and then beautified with some colour. The St. John's special. Just without the extra decor. Though the two previous iterations weren't too shabby at all.

This is in Kitchener. At first glance I thought, wow that is ugly. But I think I was just taken aback as it seems with the exposed staircases painted in white with blue trim that this is out of place. Like this could pass as Singapore maybe? Definitely somewhere warmer with that colour scheme. So I don't think it's actually ugly. I actually kind of like it and how out it mentally takes me to somewhere else. You could probalby find similar structures in North York or Scarboro, with similar tenant mix, but I don't recall seeing anything like that in terms of colour.

It might have worked plopped down in the middle of Bangkok, but in Kitchener it's just weird. Funny, my wife and I used to go to the Chinese and Korean places there a lot, but that was years ago. This section of King Street has been rough for a long time, but the farmer's market is there and new condos are going up, so it looks like it'll be hitching a ride on the gentrification train.
