Yes. In fact, the architect who designed it refers to it as "The Ribbon of Light." It will have different colored lighting schemes throughout the year.

The viaduct is looking good--and it will be lit for the Olympics for sure.

I'm still alittle bummed out they cut the walkable arches but it definitely looks amazing. Another landmark that can be lit up to match certain events like sports or holidays.

fantastic!....didn't realize the lighting system, as with city hall, would be color changeable. The city had better keep the bridge & the planned park under it safe & clean.

btw, the amt of graffiti in the largest city on the east coast has become quite excessive. Their famous super talls are sort of offset by that.

I like the ribbing underneath; it makes it look almost serpent-like or something.

Really upsets me that the bridge has already been tagged, and it hasn't even been opened to public. This is why we can't have nice things.

The bridge is otherwise beautiful. Could have done with a white coat of paint, they did this to a similar arch bridge in Brazil called Ponte JK. This would have worked really great with the lighting system.

Agreed on all counts. It’s a beautiful structure but would’ve been better painted or clad in some type of metallic coating that would not only help improve the looks but be paint resistant. It’s gotta be super frustrating as an artist to have your work vandalized even before it’s finished/open.

I'm actually glad that the concrete wasn't painted; as it ages, the color will change over time---acquire a "patina," so to speak.

Yeah, it's been tagged already, but I'm very sure that was to be expected. I'm sure any graffiti will be spot painted.

^There are certain types of sacrificial clear coatings that can be used so that the tag can be power washed off. Unfortunately concrete is incredibly porous. I’m hoping they used something.

I thought I read somewhere that anti-graffiti coating was NOT recommended precisely because removing graffiti from anti-graffiti surfaces involves power washing. I'm thinking they're just gonna spot paint as needed.

speaking of which, this is the former lane mortgage bldg directly east of the former tower theater (now an apple store) soon to open as loft apts. Notice what's between several windows on its third level. If taggers put as much effort into other things as they do into spray painting such hard to reach areas...potentially deadly areas too....they'd be scientists & brain surgeons.

I've always thought that the best way to discourage tagging is not to threaten with jail time or fines, but when caught, simply tag ALL of their clothes - like, every single item, with the sign of a rival gang or tagger (most will have one).

The salvation army on 9th St was tagged big time not too long ago...I notice they've since painted it over. Good thing too because 9th west of Fig is one of the major entry points into dtla:

The land between 9th, Fig, olympic and the fwy has to be the most visible, important gap in dt....millions of ppl pass by it every wk.

Even without tagging galore, the city has never lifted a finger to clean up the streets around there. Property owners are one thing...you can't force them to fix up or tear down their bldgs....but what excuse does the city and its DWP have?

as for ppl who complain about youtube vids being posted here....even the best world travelers can't get a better sense of what's going on throughout the US & world without seeing things from the angle of ppl posting images & vids to social media. Knowing what things are currently like in some of the cities of Spain....which is historic CA's, LA's kin folk (the missions of CA, etc....weather wise too)....or some of the cities of the US, such as NYC or miami, is quite an eye opener.

LA....dtla....needs to step up its game. But not when it comes to graffiti...let nyc rule there.

You can’t believe half the things on YouTube or Social Media. Most vids are edited to promote whatever agenda the YouTuber has on their plate. I’ve seen some vids in NYC vs LA. Most are just stereotypical bs and if you talk to someone that’s actually lived in both you would get a totally different content. It’s like some of you on this forum…it’s obvious that you don’t live in DTLA, WeHo, Santa Monica, etc. and when I say live, meaning you don’t frequent these areas at all.

New enclosure for the Endeavor is very exciting. So that will be done by sometime in 2024, and the new Lucas museum should be open by that time as well... I'd imagine. Expo Park is really on a role! I wonder what the Science Center will do with the land that the temporary Endeavor enclosure sits on.

^ The area around the museums & stadiums should have been fixed up a long time ago....but better late than never. That proj, however, still remains in the planning stage. The park to be built where the old state bldg was & located next to city hall still is an empty field. The slowness & delays are ongoing examples of how too many ppl at LA city hall tend to have a 'who gives a damn?!!' attitude. I believe that's going to get worse & worse in the next several yrs. So hang onto your hats.

Devlprs & landowners in LA have also not been much better. The fact the city had to have a redevelopment agency not too long ago is a reminder of that. It wasn't ancient history when it was a lonely slog in dtla for ppl like the Yellins:

Another good thing about vids: the person who filmed himself walking across the new 6th St bridge on July 4th....with fireworks going off in the distance....gave a better idea of what that proj is like near its formal opening....& that the bridge already has graffiti on it.

I figured it wouldn't take long for the 6th Street Bridge to be tagged. The only questions are: 1) How long will it take before every inch of the bridge has been tagged; and 2) Will the city ever have the budget or will to keep cleaning it up? Just wait till the park below it opens, and I'm sure we'll see even more.

^ That's what ppl see when walking or driving by the south side of expo pk. That should have been upgraded a long time ago. But it's still a work in progress today....the parking lots & clutter of the DWP are still there. Things like this are why LA needs to up its game. Regrettably that's probably going to get tougher & tougher as both the economy & city hall start going against....intentionally or inadvertently....the improvement of LA....dtla.
