Why did Helle sign long term years back???
Little ????
Wheeler????
Statnsy keeps coming back for some reason as well.
Conner ??? One of the best players in the NHL.
Ehlers?????
Buff back in the day was long term.
Honestly it's all in your head that no one wants to play here.

Hockey players want to go to a winning team period. They don't really have to live here as they are on the damn road all the time. They can have their home anywhere to be honest. Edmonton fans sound like you as well. ...... Yet they still sign stars.

I understand a player not wanting to play for say Arizona. But most players who are actually hockey nuts enjoy Winnipeg for its extreme hockey fan base. Imagine being a top player and playing for Arizona or any other empty arena's ? Sure wouldn't feel great.

Sure the taxes are —. But sorry not everyone can fit on one team lol. The players know it.

And back to Trotz. Out of all the teams that had a chance of getting him. We were at the very top. And who knows. If he decides to come back to coaching next year he might be our coach or maybe when Chevy's extension runs out , Trotz will get the big man's position. TN and Trotz I am sure had some serious long term talks.

As for PLD for the 100th time. He's just testing the waters like most star players do. That way he gets too dollar from the Jets or another team. It's more his manager then anyone else doing the talking. Either way he's here for TWO more seasons. Then if he really wants out, he would be an amazing trade deadline bait .

Wheeler also doesnt want to leave. But he's open to it. Which I'm glad as I think of he left PLD would stay for sure.

It's not the city right now, it's the old man's club that Paul left in the locker room that is the issue. Wash that out with some good detergent and you have a happy team again. I wouldn't even doubt if Wheeler was one of the reasons Buff retired.
Thank you for providing some logic to this tired old, "no one wants to play in Winnipeg BS."

Coaching is a different animal than player recruitment. Most coaches would jump at the chance to head coach ANY team. Trotz was a red herring. It is unfortunate that TNSE put all their eggs in one basket and potentially lost out on another coach, but at this point we will just have to wait and see what we get. I'm not overly optimistic about this upcoming season- I feel like we're in the midst of a dumpster fire, but fires can be put out and foundation rebuilt in time. So, it's a wait-and-see approach.

So, kind of like Montreal.

I know people were hard on me when I said that Winnipeg would have a hard time finding a coach that would get more out of the team than Maurice, and I know people gave me a hard time for saying that it's difficult to attract people to Winnipeg in general, but it's July and the draft is a week away and there's still no coach.

Like, in the span of three days a Manitoba native said no thanks and the Memorial Cup winning coach, notorious for only wanting to coach USports, joked that the Jets were calling him again. You guys are in denial if you think Winnipeg isn't one of the toughest places in the NHL to hire personnel and find players for. And that's fine, teams are able to work through situations like that, but it's a pretty obvious fact. Just because players do play for the Jets and sign long term at a potentially inflated market rate doesn't mean that any of the rest isn't still true.

Might as well hire Paul Maclean and Jim Kyte as Arniels assistants if our goal is to recreate the 1986-87 winnipeg jets while we are at it get John Ferguson Jr as Chevy assistant GM and he can throw the plexi glass window from the press box onto the ice like his dad used to do.

I think there is a bit of an overreaction going on here. The Jets brass went all in on Trotz who ended up deciding he was content to keep cashing cheques while attending to personal matters in his life. Do you think they're beating themselves up in Philadelphia and Las Vegas because Trotz rejected them too? C'mon man.

If there is a criticism to be made here it's of the Jets management who couldn't read the situation to recognize that Trotz was going to sit out this season and chase someone else instead. Whereas now they're stuck with the leftovers and retreads, unless they can uncover some diamond in the rough.

There are only 32 NHL head coaching jobs in the world... it's a long way down from there to any other hockey coaching gig. The idea that the Jets are going to sit there offering millions of dollars to a coach and no one qualified is going to answer their calls because Winnipeg is completely absurd.

The Jets, specifically Chipman, were all-in on Trotz and they likely had no plan B so now they are scrambling.

Given the organization's past, Chipman is probably checking Ancestry.com to see if any potential candidates have True North in their blood.

I'm sure Chevy is furiously dialing up random ex-Manitoba Moose assistant coaches now...

But honestly, look what the Leafs did with Sheldon Keefe. He had never stood behind a NHL bench in his life before Toronto hired him for the top job. He has done fairly well so far. I guess nobody else wanted to come to Toronto and they were desperate? Haha. But the point is not everyone has to have a NHL pedigree to be successful in that role.

I know you're being facetious but Keefe was a pick by Dubas because they had worked together in the Sault.

What you're saying is correct, but given the other issues surrounding Winnipeg it's probably safer for them to go with proven NHL coaches as opposed to risking things with CHL and AHL guys. I'm not one in support of the NHL coaching carousel but it seems weird that if the Winnipeg roster was as strong as we are lead to believe that none of the coaches that were playing musical chairs a month ago landed in Winnipeg.

Are the only actual candidates people who have lived or played in Winnipeg before?

Kevin Weekes reports job has been offered to Rick Tocchet its his to accept. This is a serious downgrade from Maurice. I guess he will atleast have the Jets play a more physical game but we need to change the personel to be able to do that. If we tank and draft Bedard maybe it will be worth it. Next up trade Wheeler PLD and Scheifele

And what if Rick puts a fire under this teams was and doesn't allow Wheeler and Scheif to run the team and it actually starts winning? I bet you will say ( told you Rick was the guy for the team... ). You obviously don't understand hockey. You think you need a big name to win. Look at Florida after Queenville had to resign. Their assistant coach comes in and the team wins the president trophy. Then what do they do ???? Oh wait they hire a washed up Paul Maurice....And as stated above... Look at the Leafs. And unknown. And he turns the team around. Sure they — at playoffs . But we all knew that. Even Trotz wouldn't be able to get the Leafs past the first round. I'm willing to give Rick a chance. We have been crying for half a decade we wanted an l new coaching staff and now we will get one. Remember unlike players with big stupid assed contracts, you can fire a coach at any time.

In December you can let me know if I was wrong.

Oh and furthermore how many CUPS has Rick got..... I'll wait...oh that's right 2 as a coach. How many does your dream boat Maurice have ....oh wait ZERO. And just because Rick was stuck on a — team being Arizona. Doesn't make him a bad coach. Look at his tenure with Pittsburgh!!!!! Which was right beforehand. And cup after cup.

Tbh I'm more excited if we get Rick then Trotz.

Whether or not Tocchet is the right man for the job, it remains to be seen. It would have been nice to have Monty, but that's not going to happen to us now.

One thing is clear though. It seems that we are now living in the worst possible timeline in terms of prospective coaches, potential high profile trades, and weak draft prospects. It's also clear that at some point, Chipman has shortened the leash on Chevy on the overall performance of the coaching staff, and the "core" team. It doesn't seem obvious, but we all know what's lying in front of us right now, and going into the off-season.

We are at a crossroads right now, and depending on who we hire as a coach, there will be a major impact on the locker room immediately after we hire a new head coach.

There is rot in the core, and the only way to fix it is to get rid of what's causing it. Maybe a coach that we don't want is what we deserve after all, and maybe that's just enough to make the much needed changes in every aspect of the team.

We won't like what we'll see in the coming days and weeks, but my god, this is what every fan goes through time after time. We've had our highs, and now we are going into the lows.

This will be a very long summer.

What are you smoking or drinking? You must be the only person on the planet who would take Tocchet over Trotz. Tocchet is like a .400 career head coaching record never won a playoff round and has only guided a team to the playoffs once in his whole career. I rather take a chance on a junior or ahl up and coming coach than a retread like Tocchet.

It's interesting that Babcock is never part of the conversation. The guy's record is stellar. And yeah yeah I know Marner. But people can change.

The Winnipeg Jets and veteran coach Rick Bowness are working on finalizing his agreement to be the next coach of the Jets. This will end a thorough interview process for the
@NHLJets
that began with Barry Trotz as the target. Experience a key factor here.

Bowness hiring comes out of left field but its better than Tocchet and he knows Winnipeg being an assistant here in the 80's with the Jets and being a veteran coach I think signals they are not going full scale blow up and rebuild but rather make some changes and retool for another playoff push.
