This is dangerous and disgusting. The last thing we need in British Columbia is the right trying to undermine our democracy like in the US.

In my opinion, the political mistake was trying to sell a new/upgraded $800 million dollar museum instead of trying to sell an $800 million dollar preventative securing of the provincial historical archives and pointing frantically at Brazil.

Fixed election dates are an Americanism brought in by neocons like the BC Liberals only in the last 10-15 years. The sooner we dump them and return to a traditional parliamentary system the better.

I think it's probably a good thing that elections are consistently held during the relatively dry relatively temperate relatively calm October instead of randomly in an August heatwave or January snow dump, but BC has never and currently does not have any laws preventing legislature from calling an early election. What we don't need is deperate pandering pre-election season, what we do need is stability of government and level headed governing. The government has a 4 year mandate to earn the trust of the population and if they think they've earned their mandate in only 3 years, power to them to ask the population if we agree.

As to Falcon's hypocrisy, I had to shake my head earlier this month when a 4th cruise ship had to tender their passengers to shore in Vancouver because the BC Lieberals had built their vastly overbudget Vancouver Convention Centre with no provision for handling ships (despite the planned closure of Ballantyne).
Yeah, it's all the Liberals fault that the public thought it would be a bad idea during a recession to spend a billion dollars on a new museum in Victoria.

I thought you were against "gotcha" politics but blame the Liberals for the Port of Vancouver deciding that container traffic was a higher priority than cruise ships. It was used for 1-4% of cruise ship traffic and most of the larger cruise ships can't even fit under the Lions Gate Bridge.

Rumour has it John Horgan will announce his retirement today. A shame but can't blame him after battling cancer.

The premier of British Columbia is preparing to announce his retirement on Tuesday afternoon, multiple sources have told CTV News.

John Horgan is scheduled to speak at a 1:30 p.m. news conference in Vancouver, where he has spent the last two days at a cabinet retreat. CTV News will be streaming the event live.

Rumours have swirled about the premier's possible retirement since last week, when he appeared on a CBC radio program and gave an open-ended answer about his political future...

I believe he is cancer-free (for now) but I'm sure it makes one question what is most important to them.

Yes, unfortunate for him, his treatment probably knocked him pretty hard. It seems the spark has faded a bit, and in appearance he seems less than what he used to be.

Bye Bye Dirty Johnny 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵-again. not sad to see you go. rot in hell.

I heard through the grapevine he is stepping down to try and get ahead of a big NDP Bingo-gate style scandal brewing behind the scenes. Lets all pray for an arrest on 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵-again soon.

Cancer's a 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵, but at least he didn't have aggressive brain cancer like some degenerates here.

Just saw the official press conference announcement, Godspeed Horgan. Certainly not the worst premier we've ever had.

Quote:
B.C. Premier John Horgan to step down before next election

B.C. Premier John Horgan will not be seeking re-election in the next provincial election.

The two-term NDP premier, who was recently treated for throat cancer, made the announcement Tuesday, citing his health as one of the primary reasons behind his decision.

"My health is good, but my energy flags as the days go by," Horgan, 62, told reporters gathered in Vancouver.

The resignation announcement comes four days after Horgan fuelled speculation about his political future during a radio interview with CBC. Host Gregor Craigie had asked the premier point-blank whether he was going to finish his current term in office, to which Horgan only said he would have "more to say" this week.

It also comes months after the premier underwent cancer treatment for the second time in his life. He received dozens of "rigorous" radiation treatments for throat cancer and said the experience prompted him and his wife, Ellie Horgan, to reflect on the rest of their lives.

"My spouse and I just felt it was time," he said, referring to Ellie as "the love of my life."

While Horgan was undergoing treatment, Farnworth temporarily took the reins as Deputy Premier. A title he still holds.

Horgan didn't announce he was stepping down, just that he wasn't going to run in the next election. I imagine there will be a leadership race in the next couple years and odds are Farnworth will try again, just like Horgan tried again after losing to Dix. Personally I'd like to see someone younger, I could see Rob Fleming or David Eby in the running too.

Leadership race in the fall. Horgan will stay on as an MLA until the next election.

The NDP needs to run with new blood. No Farnworth and no Eby. Don't make the same mistake the Libs did.

I dunno, Eby's pretty popular here after his pro-housing and anti-laundering campaigns. The Libs can only win if they retake the Lower Mainland, and being up against Falcon (who's part of an administration that was the opposite) only helps the Dippers.

WTF is literally wrong with you? 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵-again? What are you, 13?
