Chicago may have built a lot of prewar highrises but they aren't very tall because of the height limits. You can't see them from far away. There are few examples of prewar skyscrapers outside of NYC that can be seen from far away. Probably only Terminal Tower in Cleveland, which held the title of tallest building outside of NYC for many years over Chicago.
