Seabird Suites is “progressing” I guess you could say. A very slow construction project.

Apartment complex behind Tipsy Tomato has not started.

More excavation has seem to be have taken place on the hill up and behind Boars Head Road. I’m wondering if someone is planning a new sub division up there.
Where off Boars Head? PAN 06351116?

Personally I would love to see it incorporated into Funday Quay...

Sadly it seems we aren't going to hear any word on a possible location until October and I'm not holding my breath for even then we'll know.
I'd be surprised if we heard a location announcement then, the province has really only committed to releasing the strategic plan for the museum in October, which was written I think almost two years ago.

The talking points out of Higgs & Co. seem to indicate that Douglas Ave is the preferred location for those with the pull to dictate the outcome. I'm curious how they plan to make that work, given the size constraints and structural issues. My ideal solution would be to tear down the old building and keep only the facade, building an entirely new structure that suits a contemporary museum and emphasizes the amazing view of the river behind it. Time will tell I suppose.

I'd rather the Museum stayed uptown. When you think foot traffic and tourists especially with cruise ships. Having it in Market Square or Tin Can Beach is perfect walking distance. I know it's technically "not that far" of a walk, but still would prefer it uptown. Even for locals, I'd visit a museum more often uptown when spending a day hitting restaurants and shops.

Oh I agree entirely, I just think the province has been talking as if they are focused on Douglas Avenue, perhaps since the land and structure is already in their hands.

I had heard a possibility that the exhibition space and collection centre will be separate buildings again, which could mean we see either Uptown or Douglas Ave as the public exhibition space, while a new build for the collections, archives, and research would go elsewhere further from the core, either near the University, or in an industrial park-type of environment. I actually see this as a good option, and it is fairly common with large institutions, for example the Canadian Museum of Nature which has an exhibition space near downtown Ottawa while their collection and archives are quite far away in a suburban part of Gatineau.

With Fundy Quay coming up that’ll put our tower crane count at 2 with the possibility of other projects bringing in more.

Lots of activity on Royal Parkway as someone mentioned. Curious what is being built.

Yes that was me. I’m suspecting multiple ~12ish unit apartment buildings.

Has anyone seen more information on the proposed medium-scale project at Queen Sq North and Charlotte? It's great to see the Queen Square area get some long overdue improvements. This thing should run half a block so I'm surprised there hasn't been more speculation.

Public hearing is set for August 22 I believe but it’s going to have to go through the HDB first so I suspect we will see the renders sometime in July.

It will be a small crane city. With the Technology Drive, Sea Bird Suites, 2 new Port Cranes (they count lol) and I imagine Fundy Quay will get a crane by the end of the year.

I was hoping someone would have an inside scoop. HDB meets a week from Wednesday and after that, not until August 3rd. So all will be revealed either this Friday or July 29th.

I deeply hope their plans do not include demolishing 13 Queen Sq N. It does sit on way too much land for the building, though, and perhaps they're just planning to use the lawn to the east and southeast of the building for something. This jibes with the request to use a portion of 21 Queen Sq N, too. Maybe one structure on the corner of Charlotte and a larger one between 13-21?

Historica owns these properties, right? If so, this project would explain why they've been so quiet lately. They have been doing a LOT of brick repair and maintenance though. Interested to see what they bring to the HDB. The only things they've had to come to the board in recent years for is like, windows, egress improvements, etc. Everything else has been staff approved routine maintenance. So I have no idea what to expect with a very large new build.

Well people really can’t say a six story building will block sunlight given it’s on the north side of the square and the large slope to south side - so that would be a major hurdle they won’t have to deal with hopefully. I can’t see the set back house remaining. I think it’s going right from the service station lot to existing brick buildings. Hate to lose buildings, but a 6 story 100+ unit more than makes up for it. They’ll have to nail the design to get approval.

I wonder how difficult it would be to move the building. It's 40x40 and would fit perfectly across the street from the 1880.

With the cost of construction - makes sense to move it. And I’ve seen videos of things being moved that you’d never thought possible.

This is what used to be on Queen Sq where parking is now

One of the most significant architectural losses in the city’s history.

I believe it was the Lieutenant Governor’s house and was destroyed by fire.
