Noticed that they are now prepping for the foundation of the 2nd building at Rookwood and Waggoners (95 units). Obvious that they will use the existing tower crane for this project. Building #1 is really starting to take shape.

There's a piece in the TJ about inflation threatening the completion date for the new courthouse. Just get it #&$*ing done already.

Considering they are working on the foundation work already, I would hope that the project is far enough along that it is unstoppable now, and that most costs would be more or less locked in within variances.

But I would have thought the same for the Centennial Building version of the project too.

If this keeps up, the city will have a bunch of empty construction lots for various "Provincial Courthouse Plan for $YEAR$"

No worries about it being stopped. The worst case scenario e is that the completion date is delayed by one year to 2026 to allow expenses to be spread out providing more flexibility to the provincial coffers

There is zero reason that it should take four years to build, especially with the surpluses the government has been running.

I noticed some fill and what looked like site prep going on beside Sobeys on Regent today. I wonder if it’s Colpitts preparing the area for their 3 tower development? 🤔

I don't think what you're talking about is on that property but is rather on the portion that Sobey's owns. Not sure what is going on there.

On the Rookwood build site, forms are going in for the crane foundation it looks like. So we'll probably see the crane being moved over next week weather cooperating.

And I don't know if they are perm lights or temp lights because of all the detours on Brookside, but I noticed there are lights on the off ramps to Royal Road from Ring Road now. They aren't turned on yet, but traffic does seem heavier now that Brookside to Main is effectively closed off now.

They very much look like permanent lights. During afternoon rush hour the traffic flow will probably benefit quite a bit from the lights. The city had studied traffic patterns and volume in the area quite some time back.

That spot needed lights during the rush before the detours started. They're going to be essential during construction, but would be useful even afterward. So it would make sense for them to be permanent.

They look like permanent lights, but really with how fast they went up, that doesn't mean much (especially if they're repurposing lights taken from other intersections they've redone).

It's only on one exit of Ring Road (coming from Brookside) but that is the side that can backup a bit (They should officially make the end of the exit 2 lanes instead of the "pseudo two lanes" we have now). A roundabout would probably make sense there but would take longer to set up than the lights in this situation. Plus they're also planning a roundabout at Barton Crescent, just 130m up the road from this one.

Since it involves the Ring Road, it's a provincial project so it's a bit harder to find details about it compared to city projects. (The City's been great with the weekly updates on construction projects on the roads during the summer)

All in all, I suspect these are intended to be 'temporary' lights, but like the PMB lights, they'll become semi-permanent once Brookside reopens, and maybe it will get on the future Roundabout list for some decade from now.

I guess that drives the final nail in the coffin for TD Tower II.

Hopefully whoever snaps it up will finally put shovels in the ground for something.

That it's been a gravel parking lot for so long on such a prominent intersection is horrible.

Looks like Kileel also sold off the St. Louis building earlier this year for $1.5M.

Smart thing to do would have been to buy both, develop 99 King and get St Louis to move over into it, then redevelop that property.
