The fair that usually frequents TD Station is going down that way this year. Maybe they’re making it look decent before that gets set up.

The fair is already underway.

TJ explicitly mentions they are just cleaning up the site to make it more attractive for development.

Knowing the site fairly well from my past work, it wouldn’t surprise me if “cleaning up” is also a nice PR spin of also fixing a few liability concerns on-site, like large holes and exposed rebar, etc. ahead of the Harbour Passage expansion that will push more people that way.

99 King St had some workers down into the site (not sure what they were doing). There is also heavy equipment (excavator maybe???) down in the hole. Only saw briefly as driving by - any ideas what’s going on?

They are just cleaning up the hole and the sidewalk on King. They must be concerned about the integrity of the foundation against Charlotte Street because they have steel beams pushed against the wall.

Cooke Aquaculture Inc. has announced today that they are expanding their global head office operations by moving into 11,000 square feet of space inside the Brunswick Square Office Tower. News release: https://www.cookeseafood.com/2022/06/20/cooke-expands-global-head-office-operations-in-saint-john

Quote:
"Cooke Inc. is expanding its global head office operations, moving into 11,000 square feet of space in the Brunswick Square Office Tower, located at One Germain Street.

The Brunswick Square Office Tower is a Class ‘A’, 19 story office building. The new Cooke space will initially accommodate approximately 60 employees from the company’s IT, enterprise resource planning and administrative departments.

“Saint John is a city of opportunity, and we are thrilled to see so many successful local companies, including Cooke, a world leader in its industry, thriving and growing here at home,” says Saint John Mayor Donna Reardon. “Employees are returning to their workplaces, post-pandemic, in the heart of our uptown, giving a renewed sense of vibrancy, excitement and opportunity. We see it in all directions, through the friendly interactions on the streets, shopping in our local stores, boutiques and markets, and the joy experienced at our public events and concerts. There is something for everyone in Saint John.”

In 2019, Cooke completed historic renovations to the former synagogue at 76 Carleton Street, converting it into three floors of office spaces and meeting rooms. That property and the headquarters building across the street at 40 Wellington Row, are now near capacity and the company’s continued growth meant that additional space was required. Cooke Aquaculture Inc., the company’s North American salmon farming division, will continue to be headquartered in Blacks Harbour, N.B.

“Here’s a great example of one of our home teams, who started in neighbouring Charlotte County, continuing to grow and supporting their global operations from our region,” says Paulette Hicks, CEO Envision Saint John: The Regional Growth Agency. “Being home to global headquarters for companies like Cooke is a key part of our value proposition and we are thrilled to see this expansion happening in our region.”

Cooke has operations in ten countries and a workforce of 10,000 employees worldwide. In New Brunswick, Cooke employs over 1,500 people and is actively recruiting new employees in IT, logistics, accounting and finance, legal and more. Current opportunities are available at www.cookeseafood.com/careers.

“Cooke’s success is driven by our employees, and we are pleased to have secured this new space for our growing team in a way that allows our employees in Saint John to be in close proximity,” says Joel Richardson, Vice President of Public Relations for Cooke Aquaculture Inc. “As our company continues to grow globally, it creates career opportunities here in New Brunswick, and we are so proud of the outstanding team of professionals who drive our success.”

The Brunswick Square Office Tower is part of the Brunswick Square Complex, which is owned by Slate Asset Management (“Slate”).

“We are very pleased to welcome Cooke to Brunswick Square Office Tower,” said Jeremy Kaupp, Vice President of Asset Management at Slate. “Slate has invested significantly into making Brunswick Square a vibrant place to work, shop and stay, and we look forward to working collaboratively with Cooke, our other tenants, and all levels of local government to continue driving long-term growth at Brunswick Square and in the surrounding region.”

Re: Cooke, three offices in two blocks it is. It doesn't look like a new HQ is in the cards any time soon. I'm surprised they don't move their whole 40 Wellington enterprise into Brunswick House and keep the synagogue for executive suites or a particular department.

Kinda of an underwhelming announcement - each floor plate in building is roughly 27,000 Sq ft so sounds like they took 1/2 a floor. Good news is it sounds like they are expanding employee wise which is good for city.

One less commercial vacancy is always good news, so even if it isn't new construction, it's new jobs and one step closer to building demand for new developments.

Street reconstruction happening on Wentworth.

I noticed 101 Pitt has been completely gutted on the inside. New doors and windows and entry way has been installed. Not sure how many units are going in there but it looks like it has great potential.

The little opening between 161 Princess and St. Malachy’s Memorial High School has an excavator in there. I presume this is for the landlord’s plans that has been discussed on this thread before…

I live near 101 Pitt. Not sure what the exact count is, but somewhere between 4-8 units. A real labour of love.

I'm also enjoying how street reconstruction this year seems to be leaving sidewalks as intact and passable as possible, while the road is dug up. I presume once they have gravel in, they'll rip the sidewalks out. Last year was brutal. They dug up from foundation to foundation and left Princess a gravel pit for months.

Talked to owner a while back. It’s just a 3 unit

I believe the left hand side is owner occupied single family and the right will be 2 units. A nice start to revitalizing that neighbourhood - they previously did a spectacular job restoring a property on Mecklenburg.

Anyone know what’s up with 166 Leinster? It was suppose to start in April and we are still looking at a vacant lot.

Hopefully it's just a small stumbling block and the work gets started in the summer.

Historica Queen Square North update from the wonderful allnewbrunswick.com: 120 units, Steve Belyea of Base Engineering backing it instead of Alberta money. Loosely alludes to the design being nearly finalized.

Historica-and-Belyea-backed Impact Developments also acquired the Main Street Forum
($300K from JDI) lot as well as the two small lots on Harvey and Main ($13K from the Land Bank). Will have substantial affordable component and be dense. Brideau mentions 400 units total in the works, so I presume Main Street is ~280 or so at full buildout.

That’s huge news for the North End if that comes to be, an influx of new units is sorely needed and really add to what could be one of the best parts of the city.

I can’t wait to see the design of the project at Queen Square. It will have to be in keeping with the surrounding neighbourhood given that it’s in a heritage conservation area. My guess is it’ll be an L shaped building hopefully with some nice street frontage.
