Seriously. Looking back at some recent-historical imagery on Google Earth and the city's mapping utility, and it's crazy how fast some trees grow. We just don't notice, because it's slow relative to human timescales.

"intricate mature tree plantings throughout the park site"

so if that all goes well it may be fairly green from day one.

How do you plant mature trees? It seems to me that it take decades to have mature trees.

There was one on the highway stuck in traffic yesterday! Very large machine indeed.

I will reserve my judgement for when it is completed. I do like the new structure and welcome the seating & cover from the elements it will provide (something that was lacking previously). Also, the connection to Major Hill's Park is probably the most important addition.

I liked the structure so much more in the renders with the statue on top of it. It seems kind of odd to me that they designed it as a base for the statue, but kept the same design after subtracting the statue. It looks kind of flat on it's own.

Maybe I’m naive but I’m holding onto hope that once the site reopens, there will be a public outcry to have the statue reinstalled. Historical implications aside, it was the focal point of the park and drew people to Nepean Point.

I love history but i didn't go for Samuel de Champlain.. but I personally went there for the panoramic view and the weird metal wand looking installation

I worded it poorly, I meant that having a statue (of anyone) standing tall on a pedestal draws the eyes towards Nepean Point and could implore people to check it out. That's certainly what happened to me the first time I ever visited. Obviously, once you're there, the view takes the cake.
