LOL, Kirk LaPointe and NPA-leaning Business in Vancouver must be feeling a little desperate with this ridiculous attack on Sarah Kirby-Young:

Incumbent Vancouver city councillor running for board of exclusive club
The private Vancouver Club is housed in a 1913 Heritage A building on West Hastings near the foot of Hornby Street and hosts conferences and meetings, and boasts an athletic club and accommodations.

A Vancouver city councillor seeking re-election on Ken Sim’s ABC Vancouver ticket is also running for the board of an exclusive downtown business club.

Sarah Kirby-Yung was an NPA candidate when she finished 10th for the last seat available on city council in 2018 by a 1,668-vote margin. That was the same night then-NPA-leader Sim narrowly lost the mayoralty race to Kennedy Stewart...

... John Coupar, the NPA’s 2022 mayoral candidate, said individuals can make their own choices how to spend their free time, but Vancouver city council is a full-time job.

“I was on the board of VanDusen Botanical Gardens, before I was elected as a park commissioner, but I have to say that even even as a park commissioner you don't have a lot of extra time to to do that kind of work,” Coupar said. “I think councillors have to be very careful about allocating their time to do those types of things.”....

https://biv.com/article/2022/06/incumbent-vancouver-city-councillor-running-board-exclusive-club

I hope Coupar and the NPA have checked to make sure none of their candidates conduct such scurrilous time-sucking activities as coaching their kids' soccer team.

The 2022 version of the NPA is a complete joke and deserves to get destroyed at the polls.

As folks noted the connection with NPA council candidates and policing, some will note the connection with TEAM candidates and development battles.

- Nardi prominent in the Denny's fight
- Roberts prominent in the Shaughnessy hospice fight
- Tieleman prominent in Broadway Plan

Looking at the site, they clearly have a very diverse group of affluent Karens.

who are you calling "ragtag"

I wouldn't be surprised if Montague is highly electable as a retired VPD officer though, one of the big political talking points of 2022 seems to be law and order and whether or not he's qualified or necessary, he sounds qualified and necessary.

Larry Campbell is still seen by many as an above average mayor.

Not for or against you - I'm not even a voter in the CoV - but I'm not seeing a huge trend of municipal political experience amongst the three of you (though perhaps that's true of many scrappy non-incumbant candidates of all parties).

Isn't that pretty much the case with most first term councillors unless they've come from the school boards, or in Vancouver, the Parks Board?

Yes it is. You're welcome to take a look at my LinkedIn... as for municipal experience, I was the co-chair of the Gastown Historic Area Planning Cmte for several years and am also well-versed in planning and development through my work with urbanYVR.

Not meaning to discredit the work you've done over the years, but I'm not sure highlighting your role in GHAPC, a body that only meets a couple times a year, which is even less frequent than the First Shaughnessy ADP, is a winning point.

Vancouver mayor violated code of conduct with misleading Olympic Tweets: integrity commissioner

Vancouver city hall’s integrity commissioner has found Mayor Kennedy Stewart broke the code of conduct when he published a series of misleading Tweets in March against a proposed plebiscite on the Vancouver 2030 Winter Olympics bid.

“As we have noted, the Tweets were not accurate in stating that there was a violation of the MOU. However, as supported by a third-party witness, we find that there were concerns by the Host Nations Exploratory Assembly about the motion, and that Mayor Stewart ‘has every right to form views, to hold views, to express views and, while in office, to give effect to those views’.”
Hardwick: "Mayor Stewart was mean to me!"

Integrity commissioner: "We find that Stewart was a little bit mean to you. And he's allowed to be. Since you took the time to complain, we'll amend the minutes of that meeting to officially mention that Stewart was indeed a little bit mean to you."

Another reason why voters need to toss the Greens in October. What kind of nonsense is this and why is it take up city council's time?

Bob Mackin
@bobmackin
Motion to next week's @CityofVancouver council meeting from @AdrianeCarr proposes hiking taxes or diverting from existing programs to sue oil companies for climate change. Motion cites big tobacco litigation, where there was a clear cause and effect. #bcpoli #vanpoli

Odd. That's not what's in her motion.

How so? In the copy attached to the tweet she asks for up to $1 per resident be included in the 2023 draft budget to support the lawsuit. If it's not a tax increase then it comes out of something else. Pointless virtue-signalling taking up council time.

Pointless virtue signalling to waste time to find yet another way for the taxpayer to fund unicorn projects you say ?

Sounds like business as usual at 12th & Cambie

Last year we had $9 million new additional budgeted funds for Climate Change Action in their 2022 "Investments". That is on top of the $142 million in 2002 that included funds for their Climate Emergency Action Plan. So likely a re-allocation of $640k from a portion of Climate Action expenses to this, if voted on.

Not sure who the parking revenue allocation works but in 2022 parking revenue was something like $75 million.

Vancouver council agrees to spend up to $660,000 to fight 'Big Oil' in court

Vancouver council has voted 6-5 in favour of spending up to $660,000 to participate in a proposed legal action that will ask the world’s major oil companies to pay municipalities to help cover climate-change related costs like seawall repairs and protections from extreme heat.

The idea of a class-action lawsuit being brought by municipalities against major oil companies is advocated by the Vancouver-based West Coast Environmental Law’s recently launched Sue Big Oil campaign.

Vancouver Green party councillor Adriane Carr brought forward the motion that the city agree to contribute up to $1 for every Vancouver resident toward the proposed legal action.

Green councillors Carr, Peter Fry, Michael Wiebe and COPE councillor Jean Swanson voted in favour, while councillors Rebecca Bligh, Melissa De Genova, Lisa Dominato, Colleen Hardwick and Sarah Kirby-Yung voted against.

Mayor Kennedy Stewart with the deciding vote supported the motion.

WCEL staff lawyer Andrew Gage said Vancouver was the first municipality to sign on to the charity’s Sue Big Oil campaign.

This is either a feelgood action to piss away $600K or that money will evaporate into pockets. I don't really understand what they think they are doing trying to fight something like this. Delusional.

This is only a good investment if the City wins the lawsuit... which, as our history of oil spills has shown, is usually not the case.

Not impressed at all with Gastown and its preservation and maintenance. What's up with the "ragtag" road surface and general disrepair of the surroundings?

Sorry this is outside the previous discussion, but I really would like to know.
