The units are interesting, I couldnt imagine a 2 floor (what looks to be 2 bedroom) townhome with no dining area though. Savoy website is more of a landing page so it doesnt show any floor plans.

For those curious a new zoning bylaw that has been in the works for the past year will be going to council on Monday for initial consideration. One of the major changes is new density bonusing in Urban Centers. Every Urban Center has a height map but there are new density bonuses that can apply to the base height. For example, areas of downtown designated for the highest density will be permitted to go up to 40 storeys without variance.

Love all the new developments being proposed in Kelowna, city is changing fast.

I do however wish the city would take a Zurich or Geneva approach to development and focus more on higher quality mid-rise housing.

^How do you measure the "soul" of a person let alone a building? I think a better description would be featureless, bland and uninspiring and if that's the yardstick I agree, the last architecturally redeemable building to go up was Centuria and that was 14 years ago

This is located in West Bank First Nations, not Kelowna. Regardless, pretty incredible addition for the Westside.

Such a great location calls for more distinctive architecture. This developer is now proposing vanilla cookie cutter tower sitting on top of a podium, to appease a few neighbors. Seeing as this is city property, and the tendering process had specific community benefit and height requirements, the project's design should be to the benefit of the city as a whole, not to just the residents on The Madison and The Innovation Centre who are playing NIMBY about their views getting blocked.

The original proposal was great, so blame the NIMBY factor. Rule #1, never buy a house or condo for the view.

They are building a large presentation centre at the RBC/Pushor Mitchell building on Ellis, so I think it’s more than a vision.

Update for everyone for UBCO tower proposal downtown. A significant redesign has taken place. The new proposal includes an additional 10 storeys. original proposal was 35 storeys and new proposal is 45 storeys and 155m. For comparison, the existing One Water Street tower is 36 storeys and 119m. So UBCO will be significantly taller then One Water. Full details in link below.

I'm assuming it's mixed use with the majority of it being residential?

You are correct. 4 levels of below grade parking, 1-11 is academic, 12-45 is residential.

Holy moly. That's wicked for Kelowna. Insane height for this city, and very distinctive design. It's so often that academic institutions lead the way in innovative designs. Love it.

I like the height, I like the materials, but I'm not a fan of the massing. They should slim it down and add another 15 storeys/50 metres. ;D

Agreed though in slimming the massing a bit while adding a few more floors.

Even though, 155m! In Kelowna?! A true skyscraper.
