Agreed on the blank walled Scotia towers - no views to the harbour is just stupid.

The blank walls facing the Harbour may be the most benign thing about the complex.

The harbour isn't that small that you can't see it just because there's no windows on the narrow sides. The two window sides are both facing views of the water, just different parts of it. Even in that picture you can clearly see the windows from the harbour even at a fairly slight angle meaning you can also see that part of the water from them. I've been an office in that complex and the views are great.

The main issue that I have from a skyline perspective is that the width gives some angles a very short and squat appearance compounded by the fact that there are two and they can visually merge together. I don't tend to like "twins" developments as much as stand-alone towers anyway although there are exceptions.

But overall, the biggest issue with the development is at street level since it meets Barrington with a large stretch of blank walls and the whole complex broke up the fine-grained street grid.

Yeah the view from the Scotia Square Towers are terrible

Also to be fair when they built those towers they had a pretty clear view in all directions.

That "current" shot of downtown is 8-10 years old judging by the amount of missing buildings.

Barrington Tower is 20 storeys tall and actually is pretty tower-ish in aspect ratio although it is obscured from a few angles by the complex and the huge complex footprint combined with the hill makes it look like a square from the upper elevation. Unfortunately the base of it is the bunker-like mall, a pedway, and loading bays. If there were a nice lobby and small plaza at the base of the tower it would probably look pretty good. It has some brutalist 60's era appeal.

The Duke side is the "front" of the complex and is better than the Barrington side. The upper portion of Duke is a pad for a new tower which will likely be built soon and the lower corner might get overhauled so this elevation is not that bad.

I think it's a big missed opportunity how Cogswell is happening and that area is being torn up but nobody's talking about building underground and eliminating the pedways. It's wild that the municipality is making a big deal out of this city building project and the main rendering of the new square that will be created shows an enormous pedway running across it. Much like how the municipality shut down SGR for a long period of time and installed plain concrete curbs and planters.
