Surprised no one has posted this yet, but Fiji Airways is hiring for a position in Vancouver that heavily suggests it is starting service here with it's own metal. The position is directly with Fiji Airways and involves supervising a ground handler, which is a role airlines hire themselves when there is a 3rd aprty handler involved. I don't want to jumpo the 🞵🞵🞵 or anything, but hoping for a nice announcement from them

Oh wow, that would be interesting. Imagine having both Fiji Airways Air Tahiti Nui at the same time as destinations.

Encouraging news!! Didn't Fiji Airways fly to YVR for a while up until some years ago, then stop? Would this be a resumption of service? Sounds great in any case.

Looks like AC have just finalized W22 schedule, looks like big reduction from the original plan.

Some notable changes:

New or extended to year-round
YHZ (3x weekly)
AUS (3x weekly)

Suspended routes:
PEK, MEL, TPE, SJC, DFW
PVG will still route through ICN, 2x weekly

Convert to mainline:
LAS, YLW (2 of the daily flights)

Convert to express:
YXY

Other notable changes... Hawaii routes area almost back to normal with the following:
HNL 14x weekly
OGG 13x weekly
KOA 4x weekly

Mexican routes are still in a reduced state (I think ZIH have even less flights compared to W21?)
MEX 7x weekly
CUN 4x weekly
PVR 3x weekly
SJD 3x weekly
ZIH 1x weekly

US sun routes are mostly back to normal, including PHX, PSP, SAN, DEN, etc.

No surprise the China routes are axed, it's a result of the Draconian measures taken by China to cover up their charade of controlling COVID. Don't think these routes will be back to normal for a while. But happy to see AUS and YHZ sticking around, both very desirable destinations for YVR so good to see the indicators are supporting the routes.

MEL, TPE, SJC, DFW are not surprising, I thought they had already been given the formal chop anyways. SJC I hope comes back, and eventually MEL as well, but TPE and DFW I am OK with the competition sticking around more. I'd rather hold on to CI and BR, so if losing AC means those to stay, I'm ok with it. And DFW is really an AA route and always has been, it's their marquee route. So again, I'm good with them having it and supporting it. But SJC and MEL were AC routes through and through, no competition and were really part of the Pacific hub, so really hope these are the first ones to come back.

For summer 2022, looks like a few small updates. Flair has dropped ANC as far as I can see, leaving AC the sole carrier on the route once again. AC has upgauged one of the daily SAN flights to mainline A320, the other flight still on a CR900. AC has upgauged one of the 4 daily flights to SFO back to mainline A320, had previously been a Jazz CR900. Some minor changes that were partially mentioned before, the aircraft mix on LAS, LAX, and SFO has changed slightly. So the AC summer sched looks like:

ANC - 1x daily 737 MAX
AUS - 4x weekly 737 MAX
BOS - 1x daily 737 MAX
ORD - 1x daily 320
DEN - 2x daily CR-900
HNL - 1x daily 737 MAX
OGG - 1x daily 737 MAX
LAS - 1x daily 321
LAX - 3x daily 737 MAX, 1x daily 220, 1X daily 321
EWR - 1x daily 737 MAX
PHX - 1x daily CR9
PDX - 3x daily DH4
SAC - 1x daily CR-900
SAN - 1x daily 320, x1 daily CR-900
SFO - 2x daily 737 MAX, 1x daily 320, 1X daily 220
SNA - 1x daily 737 MAX
SEA - 5x daily DH4

Definitely decent for the first year out of COVID-ish.. Nice seeing the level of mainline service, 19 flights on most days, to twelve destinations. Obvi still room for improvement, but a good schedule overall all things considered.

You missed PHX! A daily CR9

^ And both JetBlue and Sun Country start this month as well.

Transborder going to be stronger again… not quite there yet but all starting to look positive again!

Oops yes of course, thanks I did miss that, added to the list now.

We're seeibng some of those insane growth periods now, it's good to see just wish it wasn't coming from the extreme carnage of the last few years... Transborder traffic in April was up 2,647.7% it's so weird to see a percentage growth that high. From 11,313 to 310,852 in a year I'd say is a strong recovery. But yes, still not there yet, but a really really positive start to the summer season I think.

I've been surprised that cruising has bounced back the way it has, there's several days with 3 ships at Canada Place. Two years ago people had all but written it off, even when they imagined COVID ending they were convinced trips like that weren't going to come back right away. Seems it's happened sooner than expected

For what it's worth, I know for a fact from an internal AC source that YVR-YHZ is performing "a good bit better than expected"

I saw an ad a few weeks ago that said it was a direct flight to Fiji, but I wasn't paying attention to where it originated. Lots of Fijians here.

We need a nice route announcement pick-me-up. This would be good.

So is SQ coming back next summer do you think? So far it's ending in October, and nothing available for sale up to April that's loaded. I hope they do come back

^AC might be announcing a new Asia-Pacific destination in a month or two. My money's on SIN, but it could also be MNL.

The airline is also considering adding flights to a new destination in the Asia-Pacific in the near future to cater for pent-up demand in leisure travel, she said.

"Probably we'll make a decision within a month or so," Weiss said, without providing further details.

SQ haven't update W22 schedule yet, but recently zeroed out 2 of the 5 weekly to SEA and maintaining the 3x weekly summer service through March 2023. So either SEA (and YVR) isn't performing well enough for them, or they are planning to maintain the current setup for YVR/SEA.

Also, note that AC currently have 5x weekly planned for both BNE and AKL for the winter... so that leaves 4x weekly on days 1357 for a potentially a new route to South-East Asia, Australia, New Zealand or any Pacific Islands, departing YVR at 10:45pm. But then they can also run the BNE/AKL routes with just 3 planes with the plane sitting at YVR on Monday unused.

HU resumed one-way SZX-YVR service starting next week (June 9). Return trip to China will be cargo only.

https://aeroroutes.com/eng/220607-hujun22yvr

This replaced the one-weekly PEK-XIY-YYZ, which was suspended early this year due to lock down in Xi'an. I guess there's too much risk to transport passengers back to China nowadays so some airlines don't even bother anymore?

BKK might be it.

Good news is that no one flies non stop from North America to BKK. So AC, through YVR, would be ideally placed to capture a decent chunk of that traffic.

Bad news is, no one flies from North America to BKK, and there is a reason for that.....

That might be at least partially due to how EK funneled all BKK traffic through DXB.

Before the pandemic, this was how EK run DXB-BKK.....

Code:
EK384 DXB0305 – 1205BKK 388 D
EK376 DXB0330 – 1235BKK 388 D
EK418 DXB0905 – 1805BKK 77W D
EK372 DXB0935 – 1840BKK 388 D
EK370 DXB1145 – 2045BKK 77W D
EK350 DXB2055 – 0600+1BKK 77W D
EK374 DXB2235 – 0735+1BKK 388 D

EK385 BKK0105 – 0500DXB 388 D
EK371 BKK0205 – 0555DXB 77W D
EK419 BKK0225 – 0605DXB 77W D
EK351 BKK0745 – 1135DXB 77W D
EK375 BKK0930 – 1315DXB 388 D
EK377 BKK1600 – 1955DXB 388 D
EK373 BKK2035 – 0050+1DXB 388 D
Source

Now it's down to only 2 dailies... and YVR and most of Canada are more immune to EK than other places...
