Regina may try to dip into federal transit infrastructure funding to cover cost of new aquatic centre

About $128 million earmarked for city in Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program
How about using some of that money to filling the cycling access gaps in this city. Using the pipeline easement in the north end and over to Fleet Street, then north of Glencairn to Prince of Wales we could have a pathway system that does a full loop of the city.

Hopefully people will actually contact council and speak up on some of these issues. I emailed and I expect in a day or so that two councillors will reply bc they are the two who usually do. Neither represents my ward.

The city could build a 100m x 100m cube of concrete with the Brandt logo on the side and The_mayor would applaud the move.

Nothing yet, but I suspect I will hear back from Stevens and Stadnichuk. Those are the only two who ever respond.
I think the city councilor for my area would defund transit if she could do it.

The average length of employment at an Amazon fulfillment centre is eight months. They are notoriously famous for being a demanding employer with crappy conditions. I'm not sure how this will work out. Yes, it's jobs, but likely a pile of mostly minimum wage jobs that have no transportation out to them.

Question on that last point. Does the city have bus service out to the GTH? Can’t remember if they did that for Loblaws.

So basically just like other jobs out at the GTH?

There was certainly a vehicle going somewhere that would stop near the Golden Mile on Parliament Avenue. I don't believe it was done by the city bus service though. I'm not sure if it was servicing Harbour Landing or further out. That would have been a few years back. It was probably employer specific.

I'm not blaming the workers, Amazon is offering jobs and people are desperate enough to fill them for a time.

I do blame all the people who are buying shit and want it at their front door in 20 minutes or less. Like WTF, half of that shit ends up in the garage or the plethora of storage sheds scattered across the country.

Pretty sure it is the back of here, the Municipal Justice Building on Halifax and 11th:

Amazon does not pay anywhere close to minimum. In Nisku, AB entry level warehouse worker is $18-20.
