I drive by the Beaudry every day and noticed the crown progress has been the same for a few weeks now. Wonder what's causing the slowdown on that.

I've noticed the same. It is also a really strange looking crown structure. Interested to see how it all comes together in the end.

The glass on the normal floors continue to rise though.

Improvements like these sort of make a big focus on the way new devlpt affects dtla's skyline more understandable....

I used to work south of this & at the time the thought of the eastern side of dtla, including spring st, becoming a better balance to what was then a few improved areas around the financial district would have been seen as a long shot.

LOS ANGELES — It’s the rare parking lot in Los Angeles that doesn’t allow cars, but that’s by design at the new Bike Shed Moto Company in the Arts District. Opening Friday, the motorcycle-themed destination is a mecca as much as it’s a meeting space for people who love two wheels. Walk into the 30,000-square-foot Bike Shed, and there’s a 350-seat restaurant, a barber shop and a tattoo parlor. There’s also a store, an event space — even a private members-only club — all of it filled with motorcycling ephemera that celebrates the joys of the open road.

LA is the first U.S. location for the Bike Shed Moto Company, which started in London “We’re a motorcycle club where you don’t need to ride a motorcycle and you don’t need to join the club. We’re open to everybody,” Bike Shed co-founder Dutch Van Someren told Spectrum News 1, moments after stepping over a welcome mat that sums up the concept. It reads, “Common Ground.”

Van Someron and his wife Vikki are Brits who started the Bike Shed as an annual pop-up motorcycle show in 2013 that included food, a curated collection of bikes and services ancillary to the culture, like tattoos and barber shop services. They formalized the concept with a brick and mortar space in London a few years later, catering to people who enjoy the nicer things in life but don’t necessarily identify as bikers.

“They didn’t like going to dodgy motorway cafes to drink a cold cup of tea with a melted candy bar standing on the side of the street pretending to be in 'Sons of Anarchy' on the weekend,” Van Someron said. “They didn’t go to motorcycle shows or read biker magazines. That market wasn’t served at all.”

In a previous life, the LA Bike shed space on Industrial Street was, like so many other converted buildings in downtown’s Arts District, a warehouse.
Now it’s separated into distinct areas separated by nooks and crannies for lounging and decorated with huge paintings that celebrate the thrill of two wheels.

“LA is kind of a natural home for motorcycle culture in terms of brands, builders, bikers and scale, weather and roads,” Van Someron said. “Here, you can ride 365 days a year.”

In London, the Bike Shed occupies 12,000 square feet of space and draws 2,500 people each week to its 110-seat restaurant. LA, he said, “is the supersized version.”

I like how the various pieces of the puzzle are helping create a more complete place....

Projs like the museums in Exposition pk, colburn concert hall & Angels landing towers make me want time to move faster....to see groundbreaking & then completion. But that also means I & everyone else move closer to the time they're a senior citizen....lol.

I notice the youtube & internet pages for Angeles landing are doing sort of a promotion campaign...I hope that's not because they trying to attract funders. I'm still waiting for oceanwide on Fig to be completed & the equity residential apt tower across from the Angels Landing site to break ground.

Space Shuttle Endeavour's permanent home breaks ground in Exposition Park

The $400-million project will allow the shuttle to stand upright

11 years after making its dramatic final flight above Los Angeles (followed by a meandering trip through its city streets), the Space Shuttle Endeavor will finally get its permanent home.

Yesterday, an array of elected officials convened in Exposition Park for the groundbreaking of the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, a 200,000-square-foot expansion of the California Science Center which will include 150 educational exhibits on three levels - and enough vertical clearance for Endeavor to stand in launch position with rocket boosters and an external tank. At completion, the project will nearly double the Science Center's educational exhibit space.

“The California Science Center is thrilled to celebrate this milestone today,” said the organization's president and chief executive, Jeffrey Rudolph. “The Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center will be a launchpad for creativity and innovation to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and explorers.”

Designed by ZGF, the 20-story Air and Space Center will be divided into three multi-level galleries– named Air, Space and Shuttle – spanning four floors and 100,000 square feet of exhibit space.

The $400-million project is named in honor of its principal donor, the Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Oschin Family Foundation. Their contribution, described as the largest which the California Science Center has ever received, is supplemented by major donations from The Ahmanson Foundation, the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Foundation, the Weingart Foundation, and the Ibrahim El-Hefni Technical Training Foundation.

To date, the Science Center has raised $280 million toward the overall campaign goal.

Construction of the Air and Space Center is expected to occur over a three-year period. Halfway through, the Endeavor is to be moved from its temporary home on the west side of the Science Center and positioned upright within the new building.

Other members of the project team include MATT Construction and Evidence Design.

The California's Space Center's expansion is the latest notable addition to Exposition Park, including the $1-billion Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, LAFC's $300-million stadium on Figueroa Street and a planned expansion of the Museum of Natural History.

Exposition Park, which is owned by the State of California, is poised for its own suite of improvements under a master plan adopted in 2020. The City of Los Angeles has also explored extending public realm improvements and active transportation infrastructure to surrounding streets.

The amount of love Exposition Park has received in terms of renovated Coliseum, Banc of California Stadium, Lucas Museum, and now this is truly amazing. The Olympics are really going to be a reintroduction of Los Angeles.

Yea, alot of things feel low key because of the pandemic, but there is alot of stuff going on most people outside of California don't realize. I think the NY times metioned something like this last week.

If we can just get the city to invest the min in the pedestrian experience in downtown LA and the expo area, that would be great. Street trees, landscaping, furniture, lighting, maintenance, etc. Can be such a great area

Beaudry looking shorter and less stout than the renders, I like this a lot, I previously thought it was going to be overly cumbersome. Looks like they might be trying something new for the crown and perhaps some lighting banks. Thanks for the picture updates guys.

Onni has made not one or two but three projects pencil out so far with this one and another near city hall on the way. If i had billions at my disposal and was a developer, i would for sure follow Onnis footsteps with supply and demand. LA housing shortage ? in the 10s if not 100s of thousands? great, buy up cheap land and BUILD.

Really hope Oschin Air/Space finishes by then. Getting the shuttle upright in complete configuration will be more important than most people realize, and LA's space history is deeper than people realize. Right now, it just looks like an airplane on the ground before a flight. Upright it will look monumental and otherworldly. Not sure about that angle in the renderings though.

Looking at reservations for The Conrad at Frank Gehry’s The Grand, first available are July 6th. I drive past this project every day and have been wondering for weeks if we’re very close to it opening, but this seems to set in stone that it will open within the next few weeks. Very excited for this tremendous Gehry project to finally be open in downtown!

I think the thing on top isn't part of a "crown structure", but rather just the end of the structural/elevator concrete core poking through the floors under construction attached to it below, with some steel columns surrounding it, perhaps the beginning of the top penthouse level(s) and/or equipment/facilities levels(heating/cooling/machinery, etc.). It will be covered up soon by the top of the building's glass exterior wall.
